  • Opel Astra Electric

The new Opel Astra Electric and Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric will electrify customers. Like all Astra variants, they not only impress with their bold and clear design, but also with their responsible performance. The new Astra Electric conveys pure locally emission-free driving fun. The electric motor delivers 115 kW/156 hp and a powerful 270 Newton meters of maximum torque – both available from the first touch of the accelerator pedal ensuring brisk starts and convincing acceleration. And while many other electric cars are limited to 150 km/h or 160 km/h, the new Astra Electric has a top speed of 170 km/h. Depending on driving preferences, Astra Electric drivers can choose between the three modes Eco, Normal and Sport.

The energy is stored in a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery. The 102 battery cells are housed in 17 modules and ensure that the new Astra Electric can cover up to 416 kilometres locally emission-free in accordance with WLTP1. The engineers attached great importance to efficient packaging and were able to ensure an exemplary range with a compact battery size. The new Astra Electric requires just 12.7 kWh of electricity per 100 kilometres (14.9 kWh according to WLTP3), making it not only the perfect, efficient vehicle for everyday use, but also an ideal companion that saves time on longer journeys – as a five-door model or as a Sports Tourer estate. Even when the battery-electric Astra needs to be recharged, this only means a short “pit stop” at a charging point. The Astra Electric can be charged to 80 percent of the battery capacity in around 30 minutes at a 100 kW direct current fast charging station. In addition, the all-electric Astra is equipped as standard with a three-phase 11 kW onboard charger for the wall box at home.

The batteries are practically housed in the underbody – so no space for passengers and luggage is lost in the interior. Even with the rear seats up, the Astra Sports Tourer Electric offers 516 litres of luggage space in the boot – with the seats folded down, the capacity increases to up to 1,553 litres. Another advantage: The low position of the battery also gives the Astra Electric and the Astra Sports Tourer Electric a safe and solid position on the road, as is typical for Opel.

    Interior

The interior also provides a particularly intense driving experience: the ergonomic Active Sport seats, optionally available in Alcantara, offer Astra Electric drivers and passengers the highest level of seating comfort à la Opel. The seats, which have been certified by Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V. (AGR; Campaign for Healthier Backs), offer excellent lateral stability and a wide range of manual and electric adjustment options. In this way, the driver feels even more firmly integrated into the vehicle and experiences a unique feeling at the steering wheel.

The fully digital Pure Panel with two large 10-inch widescreen displays also takes the driver into a modern cockpit world. The latest generation of intuitive human-machine interface displays all important functions such as battery charge status or range, while important settings such as climate control can still be easily adjusted at the touch of a button. And with the large E-HUD head-up display and natural voice recognition, drivers’ eyes can stay focused on the road and the traffic situation. Numerous assistance systems, from front collision warning with automatic emergency braking to active lane keep assist, drowsiness detection and rear cross traffic alert to semi-automated lane change, are bundled in the new Intelli-Drive 2.0, among others, and further enhance safety – as does the class-leading, adaptive Intelli-Lux LED® Pixel Light with a total of 168 LED elements.

The new Astra Electric conveys a direct, dynamic driving feel at first glance. Bold and pure in its design, the all-electric Astra comes with the Opel Vizor brand face including an extra sporty front bumper design in every trim level. Another eye-catcher are the standard 18-inch alloy wheels in diamond-cut or completely black finish. Here, too, the new Opel Astra Electric makes it unmistakably clear: the Opel compact class is opening a new chapter – emotional, electrifying and, for the first time, fully electric.

  • Opel Astra GSe

GSe returns! Following the announcement that Opel will revive GSe as a new sub-brand for dynamic, electrified models, the brand with the Blitz today released advance information and images of the first new GSe models – the new Opel Astra GSe and the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe.

As state-of-the-art plug-in hybrids, available as Astra Sports Tourer estate as well as Astra five-door hatchback, the newcomers will offer the optimum balance between ride comfort and performance-oriented handling combined with responsibility for the environment.

“The new Astra GSe and new Astra Sports Tourer GSe are the ideal cars for launching our dynamic new sub-brand, in full alignment with our strategy to become an all-electric brand by 2028”, said Opel CEO, Florian Huettl.

With an impressive system power output of 165 kW/225 hp and maximum torque of 360 Newton metres (WLTP combined fuel consumption: 1.2-1.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions 26-25 g/km; preliminary values) the new Astra GSe and Astra Sports Tourer GSe will match the best in their respective classes for launch from a standstill, acceleration and maximum speed.

In addition, the newcomers will set a new benchmark for driver engagement. In comparison to their Astra siblings, the GSe models are even more agile and even more precise; the steering, suspension and brakes respond immediately and predictably to every driver input.

The German carmaker has achieved the performance-oriented handling characteristics by equipping the new Opel Astra GSe models with a dedicated chassis, lowered by 10 millimetres. Compared with their immediate rivals, the newcomers will deliver superior stability during cornering, under braking and – like every Opel – while driving at high speed on the Autobahn.

The sporty calibration of the steering is GSe-specific, while the unique springs and oil-filled dampers of the front and rear suspension are specially tuned not only for dynamic driving but also for comfort. The dampers feature KONI FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) technology, which enables different damping characteristics at high frequencies (suspension control) versus low frequencies (body control). The ESP settings are also exclusive to GSe models, with the activation threshold adjusted upwards to match the dynamic driving behaviour.

Purposeful: Bold and pure Astra-design plus signature GSe styling cues

The new-generation Opel Astra is a bold and pure design statement for the brand; the signature styling cues of the GSe give it an even more purposeful appearance. From the outside, the design of the 18-inch light-alloy wheels – inspired by the acclaimed, all-electric Manta GSe concept – the specific front bumper and fascia, and the GSe emblem on the tailgate, leave no doubts as to the dynamic GSe character. Inside, the sporty ambitions are highlighted by the Alcantara-trimmed performance front seats; they are not only unique to the GSe, they further extend Opel’s long-standing reputation for superior seat ergonomics – especially in the Astra’s compact class – thanks to the AGR certification.

The Opel “GSe” label was traditionally an abbreviation of “Grand Sport Einspritzung” (Grand Sport Injection) as on the Opel Commodore GS/E and the Opel Monza GSE. GSe is now Opel’s top-of-the-range, sporty sub-brand, standing for “Grand Sport electric”. By combining “fun-to-drive” values with the option of locally emissions-free mobility, Opel GSe models will redefine the performance Zeitgeist.

  • Vauxhall reveals 2022 Astra Sports Tourer

2022 Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Front Angle

Following the world premiere of the next-generation Astra hatchback in September, Vauxhall has today unveiled the estate model, the All-new Astra Sports Tourer. The newcomer will be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain right from launch, making it the British carmaker’s first electrified estate.

First bold and pure estate: All-new Astra Sports Tourer with Vauxhall Vizor and Pure Panel

Together with its five-door hatchback sibling, the stylish Astra Sports Tourer is a true design statement and Vauxhall’s first estate to carry the brand’s new bold and pure design philosophy. The Vauxhall Vizor front end features a single, clean panel that houses the new Griffin logo and various driver and safety aids, helping the Astra Sports Tourer achieve a clean and sharp front end. The Vizor front end also houses the LED head lights and front camera.

At the rear, the Vauxhall Griffin sits at the centre of the tailgate, with the rear end featuring the same vertically aligned, high-mounted brake lights as the Astra hatchback – further strengthening the Astra family ties.

The design revolution continues inside. The fully digital Pure Panel human-machine-interface (HMI) offers customers a pure, intuitive experience and features a 10-inch driver instrument cluster and a 10-inch digital touchscreen. Important settings such as climate control can still be selected directly via physical switches below the console for ease of access. The Astra Sports Tourer provides drivers and passengers with the latest in smartphone connectivity, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto as standard across all models.

Measuring 4,642mm long, 1,860mm wide and 1,480mm tall, and with a loading height of 600mm, the practical Astra Sports Tourer further strengthens Vauxhall’s leading reputation in the estate sector and is another showcase of Vauxhall’s known talent for efficient packaging. The overall length is 60mm shorter compared to the previous generation Astra Tourer, thanks to the short front overhang, and features a 57mm longer wheelbase compared to the All-new Astra hatchback, at 2,732mm.

Practical and versatile: “Intelli-Space” moveable floor

The boot of the Astra Sports Tourer provides up to 608 litres of useful storage space with the rear seats upright, and up to 1,634 litres when folded. In addition, when the 40:20:40-split rear seats are folded, the floor is completely flat – making it easier to load long and bulky items. Even with its underfloor lithium-ion battery, the plug-in hybrid variant offers cargo volumes of 548 litres and 1,574 litres respectively.

Petrol and diesel variants of the Astra Sports Tourer can be specified with the optional “Intelli-Space” feature. This moveable load floor can be easily adjusted with one hand to high and low positions and tilted at a 45-degree angle. In addition, for even more convenience, the retractable boot storage cover can be stowed when the moveable floor is in both the upper as well as the lower position – in contrast to competitors that only allow stowage of the cover when the floor is in the upper position.

The Astra Sports Tourer with “Intelli-Space” can also make life easier in the event of a flat tyre. The kits for tyre repair and first aid are stored in clever underfloor compartments that can be accessed from the boot or rear passenger seating area. This means that the kits can be reached without needing to fully unpack the boot.

    Outstanding seating comfort

The Astra Tourer also provides unrivalled comfort for drivers, typical of Vauxhall. Developed in-house, the front seats of the Astra Sports Tourer are certified by Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.  The ultra-ergonomic seats are the best the compact class has to offer, and are exceedingly comfortable, especially on long journeys.

    Powertrains

The Astra Sports Tourer will be available with plug-in hybrid technology that produces up to a combined 225PS. In addition to plug-in hybrid versions, the Astra Sports Tourer will be available with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines. Power ranges from 110PS to 130PS across the petrol and diesel variants. A six-speed gearbox is standard on the petrol and diesel power units, while plug-in hybrid variants come standard with Vauxhall’s smooth eight-speed automatic.

Vauxhall will open the order books for the All-new Astra Sports Tourer early next year. The first customers will take delivery of their cars in early summer 2022. Further details including UK pricing and specification will be announced at the on sale date.

  • Vauxhall team advances with the tests of the new Astra model

2021 Vauxhall AstraThe all-new Astra is about to complete its test programme at the frozen arctic in the Swedish Lapland, and ready to undergone the next stage of laboratory experiments.

With this new model, Vauxhall demonstrates how precise engineering should be done and how an elegant design can go hand in hand with advanced drivetrain system.

    The winter tests

Over the cold months, Vauxhall engineers have made comprehensive tests in Lapland with temperatures often remaining below -30 degrees.

Such harsh conditions have helped engineers make the best possible extreme tests and fine-tune the vehicle in such a way that comfort and stability are always ensured.

During the stay in Lapland, Vauxhall specialists were joined by their colleagues from “HVAC” (heating, ventilation and air conditioning). One of HVAC’s goals was to make sure that the passenger compartment warms up quickly and remains such during long periods of time. The team was paying close attention to Astra’s engine heat rejection, coolant flow, heater core performance and blower airflow.

    The Dudenhofen tests

After the evaluations in Sweden came to an end, the team moved to Dudenhofen, Germany where engineers were able to test out Astra’s “ADAS” (Automated Driver Assistance Systems). The Dudenhofen test centre provided the opportunity for fine calibration of all systems –Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Assist.

  • The All-New Vauxhall Astra

2016-vauxhall-astra-sports-tourer-910The Vauxhall Astra has been the British car manufacturer’s much-loved family car since its launch in 1979. Today, the model continues to offer dependability, however the latest version delivers a masterclass in slick style. Be sure to book a test drive to see which trim level is for you. Dealers such as Peter Vardy can help you to make your selection.

Achieving 2016 European Car of the Year at the Geneva Motor show, this model’s innovative design and contemporary features impressed the judges and proved that this is a car that evolves over the years.

While the car achieved high praise two years ago, the car has undergone even more changes for its 68-plate incarnation. This hatchback seamlessly blends sleek design and a high spec to create a car that presents drivers with the ultimate combination of practicality and refined, modern tech.

    A Range of Trims

The all-new Astra has undergone a transformation, offering a fresh design that incorporates the signature Vauxhall wing LED lights and alloy wheels that balance the sleek and lean boy above.

There are seven trim levels to choose from, allowing you to assess which spec suits your lifestyle. Start with the entry level Design, which offers an impressive kit including 16” alloys, cruise control and a 7” Intellilink infotainment system where drivers can control the DAB radio, Bluetooth and smartphone functionality.

The Tech Line has a slightly more corporate feel and adds a Navi 900 Intellilink system with 8” screen and in-built sat nav. For a mid-level trim, Energy has an impressive offering. Ike the Tech Line, this builds on the Design’s spec with 17”, 10-spoke alloys and heated front seats and steering wheel.

At the top of the range is the Elite. This spec is packed with kit, from 17” alloys and auto lights and wipers to a cool and comfortable leather seat trim with front sports seats. Climate control, heated seats and lumbar support all round off this indulgent spec that ensures the driver is comfortable through the drive.

    A Turbocharged Driving Experience

Far from a typical family car, the 68-plate Astra has an impressive roster of turbocharged engines. Apart from the entry level 100hp 1.4-litre petrol engine, everything else has the powerful capabilities. Among the line-up, there’s the three-cylinder, 1.0-litre petrol and a choice of three versions of the 1.6-litre Whisper CDTi diesel.

    The Well-Equipped Family Car

While the Astra may have built its reputation on being a reliable, go-to family model, this 68-plate is what we’ve come to know this model for and so much more. With contemporary connectivity, powerful engines that suit long distances as well as the school run, and a spacious interior across all seven specs, there’s more to this car than meets the eye.

  • Let’s talk about Vauxhall’s latest engine systems, shall we?

2018-Vauxhall-Astra-Ultimate-910Vauxhall makes further improvements on its best-selling Astra range and the agile 1.6-liter Turbo petrol and 1.6-liter CDTi diesel engines. As you might know, the new 6d-TEMP emission standards require further improvements and even better efficiency for all vehicles on the road.

The first engine, the 1.6liter petrol offers a total of 200hp and 300Nm of torque and is paired with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. This combination ensures a top speed of 146mhp and 0 to 100km/h sprint in mere 7.3 seconds. The fuel economy is measured at 43.5mpg and CO2 emissions are 151g/kg. What makes it special, though, is the addition of Gasoline Particulate Filter system.

Furthermore, it is geared with Selective Catalytic Reduction technology for further reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions and special technology that decomposes chemicals to ammonia and stores it on a catalyst substrate. At the same time, the nitrogen oxide enters the catalyst in the exhaust gas and is reduced to nitrogen and water. Sounds like rocket science, doesn’t it? It definitely does.

  • Winter is Coming and According to Vauxhall, There Will Be Light

2016 Vauxhall Astra Adaptive LED Matrixh Lights Winter is coming and brings tons of responsibilities for drivers and vehicle owners. And at this time of the year Vauxhall decided to add some more flavor to its all-new Astra with the IntelliLux LED Matrix headlights. As the dark times of the year approach, these adaptive, glare-free, permanent high-beam lamps will illuminate your road in a significant way and will also reduce the risk of accidents. Or at least say so Vauxhall’s engineering team.

According to the Department for Transport statistics, there are over 900 accidents in darkness hours that involve carriage way hazard. And almost the half of them involve animals and other objects. And in such dark times Vauxhall comes with solution and offers salvation and devotion to the light side. So, let’s check out how bright is the light side of driving.

    The Adaptive LED Matrix Lights

The lights consist a total of 16 LED segments, eight on each side of the vehicle and a special matrix system that switches the high beam on right after the car exits the urban area and then again automatically and constantly adapts both the length and shape of the light cone in every traffic situation.

And using the input from the front camera that detects the light source from an approaching vehicle, the IntelliLux again automatically deactivates the individual LEDs in the relevant zone that can blind other drivers. Frankly, this seems a really useful idea.

SEE ALSO: 2016 Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Will be Even More Flexible

The researches made in the Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany and the European LightSightSafety initiative do demonstrate some interesting conclusions. At speeds of about 90km/h (50mph) drivers with full LED matrix systems locate objects at the side of the road approximately 30-40m earlier than drivers in vehicles with conventional halogen or xenon lights. In other words, the driver who uses LED matrix system has additional 1.5 seconds for reaction in road situations.

And one more thing. When the camera detects light sources from oncoming vehicles, the individual LEDs in the relevant zone deactivate themselves and cut out the area around the cars. But at the same time the rest of the road is highly illuminated.

So, should we trust Vauxhall’s path of illumination or should we stick to the old, but still proved itself path of not-that-dark-darkness?

  • Irmscher Opel Astra Program is Ready for Launch

Irmscher Opel Astrain Grey - Side ViewIrmscher is one of the tuning companies, which is hard to see very often. The first reason for this is that they are working only with Opel (Vauxhall) vehicles. The second: they are doing this for 47 years now, and this means that they are really good in it! Now, the modification specialists are absolutely ready with the launch of their new program for the latest Opel Astra.

    Visually Better Astra

Irmscher improved the visual stance of the car with some simple changes that prove to be very effective. The biggest change is probably the grille. The original one was substituted with the classic Irmscher radiator grille that gives the Astra even more dynamic appearance for its front. Depending on customer’s wish the radiator grille can be made from stainless steel or carbon fiber.
