  • 2012 Volkswagen Amarok UK 2.0 BiTDI – Price £19,795

Volkswagen has announced the new updated 2012 Amarok coming with a power upgrade for the 163 HP BiTDI engine to 180 HP, and the introduction of BlueMotion Technology models to offer improved efficiency and dynamics.

2012 Amarok UK can be ordered with a lot of nice extras like Bluetooth, front and rear parking sensors, heated washer jets, tachograph preparation, cornering fog lights and 19” alloy wheels.

To improve the fuel efficiency and lowering harmful emissions, the manufacturer fitted the pick-up truck with low rolling resistance tyres, Stop/Start and regenerative braking. The torque of the engine is also improved with 20Nm to a total of 420Nm at just 1,750RPM. The 8-speed automatic gearbox transmits all that power to the road through 4MOTION AWD system.

The 180HP BiTDI engine can be coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox and selectable 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The pricing start at just £19,795 including VAT.

“The new 180 PS engine and automatic transmission make the Amarok even more refined, plus with BlueMotion Technology also now available, it can offer more efficiency, too.”, commented Alex Smith, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

  • Volkswagen Amarok Canyon Concept

Volkswagen Amarok has proven itself as very reliable and well appreciated utility vehicle. However, the manufacturer introduced a new special version of the pick-up truck at the Geneva International Motor Show. The name of the project is Amarok Canyon Concept, which will show how versatile pick-up configurations can be created.

“We are using this extreme concept to illustrate one of the many diverse uses of the Amarok. By tuning its design to an extreme sport, we are bringing the original DNA of the Amarok into focus,” said Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, spokesperson for the Board of Management for the Volkswagen Brand and Head of Development at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

The concept vehicle is very different than the regular Amarok. It was raised by 40 mm with a body lift kit; and when the tyres are included, the concept is a full 85 mm taller than the production model.

The freestyle pick-up also has auxiliary headlights mounted on its roof, and additional visual accents are provided by the smoked rear lights and the colour-contrasting underbody protection. Two electrically deployed tread plates make it easy for all occupants to step into and out of the vehicle, despite the raised ride height.

The wheel housings were widened by 35 mm on each side to make room for the big AT tyres, size 275/65 R 18, mounted on ‘Durban’ type wheels painted in ‘High Gloss Adamantium Dark’.

The two carbon fibre kayaks are securely mounted to the cargo floor: at the rear, the floor is designed with two formed cut-outs with soft padding, while the kayak bows are mounted on a styling bar in ‘High Gloss Adamantium Dark’ with straps for firmly securing the boats. The paddles are firmly latched in place on the inside surface of the easy-to-operate tailgate, ready to grab. All other gear – white-water helmets, flotation devices and rafting shoes – are also stowed securely: the helmets in nets on the front wall of the cargo bed, and the rest of the gear in smaller boxes that can be locked with watertight lids.

The interior features a special colour scheme was used with many details and new accents. The leather seats have two-tone styling: the seating surfaces are in ‘sterling’ colour, while the head restraints and side supports are elegantly offset in ‘adamant’ colour. The decorative seams on the seats take on the orange-red colour of the body. This colour is also reflected in numerous other details such as in the seams of the three-spoke steering wheel and gear shift lever trim, the safety belts and the air outlets. Housed in a cowl in the cockpit are three auxiliary instruments. They show the climbing and tilt angles of the Amarok, which gives the driver key information for extra safety on extreme off-road drives.

Amarok Concept is powered by the new 2.0 TDI bi-turbo with 180 PS and 400Nm at 1500RPM. The switchable 4MOTION all-wheel drive system – together with a reduction gearbox and differential lock at the rear axle – ensures effective power transfer to the wheels even in the toughest off-road conditions.

  • Qatar Motor Show Sees Volkswagen Passat

Volkswagen-Passat-shadowVolkswagen brought the Middle East some German engineering by presenting the VW Passat at the Qatar Motor Show. Although, widely popular in Europe and North America, the Passat made its debut on Middle Eastern soil.

“The Passat is an important component of our model strategy in the Middle East region where classic saloons define the street scene. That is because the Passat delivers top levels of safety and comfort and offers more space for rear passengers due to its long wheelbase,” explained Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Head of Development and member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Brand.

The version showed there was actually the North American make (slightly bigger than the European sister car). Power comes from the 125 kW/170 PS five-cylinder petrol engine that bares an essence of German sensibility and efficiency. Even the base model is bundled with neat luxuries that bring comfort to both driver and passengers –  a 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen, CD-radio, Bluetooth telephone system, electric windows, air conditioning, heat insulating glass and cruise control. Safety standard equipment also make a handful with ABS/ESP, brake assist and six airbags.

  • Cobra Technology & Lifestyle Goodies For Your VW Amarok

Cobra-VW-Amarok-thumbEver felt that your VW Amarok is not practical enough nor it is as impressive as you want it to be. Or maybe you are simply gearing up for a safari. Either way you shouldn’t panic because Cobra Technology & Lifestyle are here to offer you a neat array of accessories which will give your pickup truck that extra something to complete the picture.

Let us start with the Aeroklas camper shell which is manufactured from high-grade ABS plastics. It is a perfect fit for the bed of the Amarok (it also comes with a certificate that makes individual technical inspections redundant) and basically what it does is to fend off the elements from the things you value the most. It is also very practical – easy to install, upward swing glass at the back for easy access, roof rails and a spoiler. The shell is leveled with the cabin to prevent any wind noises and provide maximum loading capacity. Usually these rigid tops come in silver or black but other colors are also available upon request.

Additionally, now you can install a Cobra Technology & Lifestyle stainless-steel front tube guard with a thickness diameter of 60 milometers. Because it has its own crumple zones all crash tests have resulted in a 100% positive green light (it too has a certificate of approval).

On the other hand you can go with the more subtle option of the Cobra CITYGUARD® which is a single stainless-steel tube that runs along the standard front bumper. This will give you just about enough character on the streets and you wont be afraid of minor collisions anymore.

    Cobra Volkswagen Amarok
    Cobra Volkswagen Amarok

The Cobra Technology & Lifestyle stainless-steel bumper grille complements whichever guard you might choose.

There is some protection for the sides as well. The rocker panels can be suited with special, company tailored rocker panel guards 80 millimeters thick each. Quite thoughtfully these guards come with steps right beneath the place where the doors should be for easy access. Alternatively, you might prefer the aluminum or stainless steel running boards option.

When the camper shell is not in use, it would be nice to have some sort of a roll bar to protect the cabin should the truck ends up upside down. From Cobra, the engineers have thought about that as well – Tubes with 60 millimeters of diameter  lends the German pickup not only more attractive looks but also offers additional options for securing cargo.

For an all round complete feel one must consider placing massive light-alloy wheels. Cobra offers  two types of alloys coming in three sizes the biggest of which is the one-piece, eight double-spoked COBRA N+ Sahara 10Jx20 with size 275/45 R 20 tires (TÜV tested)

Cobra Technology & Lifestyle are ready to offer you 2 full years of guarantee with no limit on the distance traveled. Now that is dedication!
