  • 2013 Acura TL Special Edition – US Price $37,405

Acura has announced a new TL Special Edition priced from at $37,405 (excluding an $895 destination charge). Joining the TL line as a mid-2013 model, the TL Special Edition offers a step up from the standard TL, with the addition of highly desirable feature upgrades, creating an incredible value in the luxury four-door sedan segment.

The highlights include a trunk-mounted spoiler, Special Edition badging and 18” alloy wheels. Acura TL Special Edition is available in Bellanova White Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, Graphite Luster Metallic or Silver Moon Metallic.

The interior boasts Ebony leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and a powerful audio system. There is also a power moonroof and a Keyless Access System.

The engine is a 3.5 liter V6 with 280HP (209 kW) and 344Nm (254 lb-ft). It is connected to a 6-speed automatic gearbox powering the FWD.

Standard safety equipment on all Acura models includes Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control, ABS, dual-stage/multiple-threshold front airbags, front-side airbags, side curtain airbags for all outboard seating positions, front seatbelts with automatic tensioning system and load limiters, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Daytime Running Lights (DRL).

  • SR Auto Come up with an Acura TL

SR-Auto-Acura-TL-thumbSR-Auto-Acura-TL-mediumThis one is worth the attention. Not because SR Auto have outdone themselves with it or something like that but because we are talking about an Acura TL – a relatively rare aftermarket favorite. Yes, it is one of the best selling cars in the US as a model, but it is essentially an overpriced Honda.

So SR Auto bought one, and then had enough money to do just a black paint job and to add PUR 4OUR DEPTH 20-inch rims in a “Gunmetal” gray finish, complemented by a gray again touch on the edges. Add a “Shadow Black” grille and some badges… oh, and suspension-lowering springs from H&R and there you go. A plain job which is actually appealing to the eye. In essence, the TL is cool and sleek, and mean and even more so with those delicate touches.

The base stock Acura TL is front-wheel driven with a power of 280 hp that comes from a 3.5-liter V6 in the engine bay. A 3.7-liter version offers 305 hp. Either way, the SH-AWD layout would be much more appreciated for the sake of handling and safety even (280 hp to the front wheels is dangerous enough already).

  • Acura, Best Luxury Campaign from Nielsen Automotive Advertising Awards

Acura-TL-2012-thumbLast week, Acura‘s advertisement campaign for their TL range, was honored with a Best Luxury Campaign award at the Nielsen Automotive Advertising Awards event held at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. The company’s agency of record, rp& (a division of RPA) took the credit thanks to their duo of commercials that feature two well known athletes: Detroit Lions football player Calvin Johnson and 2010 Olympic gold medal winning skier Ashleigh McIvor.

The to 0.30 minute spots do not actually feature the TL. Instead the message is conveyed trough metaphors of how an entity can be physically capable and brutish even while, at the same time, emitting style and refinement. The campaign’s motto says it all really: “aggression in its most elegant form.”

Those ads seem to be on to something here. Provided that we are talking about the TL SH-AWD (and not the FWD base one), we have 3.7-liter V6 that produces 305 hp and 373 Nm of torque. The SH stands for Super Handling and we suspect the multi-vectoring all wheel drive in the TL, might have something to do with that. While cruising, 90 % of the power goes to the front wheels. When one gives it the beans however, the tables turn – 70% to the back from which, 100 % can go to either rear wheel, depending on the circumstances.

The Nielsen Automotive Advertising Awards is the only survey that measures the effectiveness of car TV ads. The data comes from around 2.5 million viewers of national television. 24 networks were included and every single commercial that began airing in 2011 was included.

“2012 has been an exciting year for Acura with the launch of the all new Acura ILX and RDX, the long awaited NSX Concept and most recently, the RLX Concept, Acura’s new flagship sedan,” said Mike Accavitti, Vice President of National Marketing Operations. “We are honored to add Nielsen’s award to that list as we continually strive to create campaigns that further Acura’s brand philosophy of innovation and advancement.”

  • Acura Tops All Competitors in Value

The Acura brand ranked first in overall luxury brand residual value in the recently announced Automotive Lease Guide (ALG) 2009 Residual Value Awards. According to ALG, Acura’s line of luxury performance vehicles is expected to retain the highest percentage of its purchase price after a traditional three year lease.

“Residual value is an important measure of overall vehicle quality and desirability,” said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of sales. “ALG’s prestigious award is yet another example of how the Acura brand is a top competitor in luxury, performance, cutting-edge technology, safety as well as in resale value.”

Residual values are a measure used to recognize vehicle quality, reliability and overall brand strength. ALG, which debuted its Residual Value Awards in 2001, bases its awards on the careful study of important factors including sales strategy, competitive set segment competition, resale performance and overall automotive industry residual values. This year’s ALG awards are based on 2009 model year vehicles and Acura beat out top luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Audi and Lexus.

Acura offers a full line of technologically advanced performance luxury vehicles through a network of 271 dealers within the United States. The 2009 Acura lineup features five distinctive models including the RL luxury performance sedan, the TL performance luxury sedan, the TSX sports sedan, the turbocharged RDX crossover SUV and the award-winning MDX luxury sport utility vehicle.
