  • JMS Tune Up for Mercedes-Benz W176

JMS-Mercedes-Benz-W176-A-Class-shadowJMS-Mercedes-Benz-W176-A-Class-mediumSeen enough of JMS‘s minimalistic approach to aftermarket customization? Well, too bad. Here’s a Mercedes-Benz W176 – or, in other words, the latest A-Class – with a slight visual upgrade.

JMS are calling it a kit but we are not so sure about that. It’s just one piece really. A front lip spoiler with an “integrated central diffuser”. You can bolt and glue that thing on the stock bumper A-Class for just 289 Euros ($394). Oh, and it doesn’t fit the AMG variants.

Will you gain something in terms of performance? Is it a hotfix to a known Mercedes aerodynamic glitch? Not likely. But hey, if you find yourself with some spare cash, why not? Might as well throw some more money at it and get the other available JMS parts. That is, alloy wheels, suspension kits speedpedal, chiptuning and exhaust kits. At least then your W176 will really stand out.

Either way, JMS, step up your game. We demand excitement… please.

  • Geneva Motor Show: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sport

Mercedes-Benz-A-Class-Sport-THUMBMercedes-Benz Sport has just surprised the visitors of Geneva Motor Show with the revealing of the sport version of the A 180 model in polar silver with detachable body parts in Jupiter red. This demonstrates how an A-Class can be sportily upgraded using Genuine Accessories and as a result this Mercedes-Benz model has light-catching edges and taut surfaces that sportiness and reinforce the car’s confident appearance.

The designers of this A 180 have chosen this striking colour for the front apron spoiler lip, the roof spoiler and the rear apron trim in diffusor look. The sporty appearance is additionally underscored by a decorative sticker kit in chequered flag design with a colour gradient and fine lines. The final look is achieved by the addition of racing numbers and a tinted sun protection strip with Mercedes-Benz Sport lettering.

This model shown in Geneva comes to offer a sense of the personalization possibilities. Some of them include: decorative sticker kits and installation kits for a two-pipe rear silencer, sports suspension and brakes with perforated brake discs and red callipers on the front wheels.

In addition, to the exhibited unit is included a “Night” styling package, front and rear trim, the diamond radiator grille, illuminated door sills with the “Sport” logo, sports steering wheel, sports pedals and 18-inch (45.72 cm) two-tone light alloy wheels in black and high-sheen.

The design here is based on high quality criteria, while the development – on experience and observation of the basic vehicle and the original vehicle computer data. This delivers more reliability, durability and function of the parts included in the vehicle.

In addition, the aerodynamic parts have been tested in wind tunnels and test drives such as high-speed circuits. What is more, thanks to the intelligent “add-on principle” for detachable body parts, no existing parts have to be removed or exchanged.

  • 2013 Mercedes-Benz A-Class BlueEFFICIENCY Edition

Mercedes-Benz is now adding two particularly fuel-efficient and eco-friendly BlueEFFICIENCY Edition models to the range: the 180 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and the 180 BlueEFFICIENCY Edition petrol.

The fuel consumption of the BlueEFFICIENCY Edition models is even lower than for the basic vehicles– by 0.2 (diesel) and 0.3 l/100 km (petrol) respectively, representing an improvement of five percent in each case. This means – 3.6 liters / 100 km with CO2 of 92 g/km for the CDI and 5.2 liters / 100 km with 120 g/km CO2 for the petrol variant.

The 180 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is a 1.5 liter diesel with 109HP (80 kW) and the 180 BlueEFFICIENCY petrol is a 1.6 liter naturally aspirated engine with 122HP (90 kW).

Factors contributing to the lower fuel consumption are: better Cd value of the A-Class from 0.27 – already a record for hatchback vehicles in this segment – to 0.26. Additional aerodynamic optimisation measures include, for example, the partial covering of the upper section of the radiator grille, aerodynamically shaped spring link coverings that improve the flow of air along the underbody at the rear axle, and a suspension that has been lowered by 15 mm.

The generator management system has also been revised, as has the manual transmission, which now features longer gear ratios in the higher gears. Visually, the BlueEFFICIENCY Edition models are differentiated by round LED daytime running lamps set into the bumper, assuming that customers have not selected either of the available options of bi-xenon headlamps or the Intelligent Light System.

The models will go on sale on 1 February 2013, while the first vehicles will reach customers in March 2013.

  • Mercedes-Benz A-Class Receives Environmental Certificate

Mercedes-Benz-A-Class-THumbThe award winning Mercedes-Benz A-Class is now achieving even higher standards thanks to fuel saving numbers it has shown. In particular the fuel savings are of up to 26 percent, emissions as low as 98 g CO2/km, a best-in-class Cd value of 0.27 and all petrol-engine variants complying with the Euro 6 emissions standard.

This basically means that the A-Class sets new benchmarks in efficiency and in addition has a high environmental performance, which was confirmed by the inspectors at the TÜV Süd technical inspection authority. They have given this Mercedes-Benz model the Environmental Certificate in accordance with ISO standard TR 14062.

As a matter of fact, the aforementioned certification is based on a comprehensive ecological life-cycle assessment of the car, documenting every detail of ecological relevance. The life-cycle assessment means that the brand analyzes the environmental compatibility of its models from production through their long years of service to recycling at the end of their lives.

And this is where the A180 BlueEFFICIENCY causes 16 percent (5.7 tons) less CO2 emissions than its predecessor. The energy balance shows a similarly positive picture, with primary energy consumption over the vehicle’s entire life cycle cut by 15 percent in comparison to its predecessor.

The fuel efficiency is due to the BlueEFFICIENCY technology, which combines optimization measures in the area of the powertrain, energy management, aerodynamics, tyres optimization, weight reduction through lightweight construction and information, which encourages the driver to an energy-saving style of driving.

  • Mercedes-Benz A-Class Presents: #YOUDRIVE [VIDEO]

Mercedes-Benz-A-Class-THumbMercedes-Benz has created a special video series which will be included in an advertising campaign in order to keep up with the innovative and creative benchmark set by the new A-Class model.

The campaign is called #YOUDRIVE and includes social and media interactions. All the Twitter users will drive the action of a three-part story shown this weekend during the commercial breaks in the X Factor UK.

However, very short teaser footage of the new campaign has just been launched. The story takes the form of a light hearted cat and mouse caper, during which the hero, a young music star played by the Top Boy actor Kane Robinson, is trying to get to a secret gig, with the help of his female accomplice, actress Wendy Glenn. At the same time the authorities are keen to close it down

Several different scenarios have been filmed and all those watching will have the opportunity to vote via Twitter and steer the action as to which route they should take. Each scenario puts a different twist on the caper – filmed on the streets of Lisbon and Porto, Portugal.

The videos were directed by Yann Demange and the Director of Photography for the shoot was Anthony Dod Mantle. The new advert launches on 6th of October during the X Factor UK. The A-Class is on-sale now, with prices starting from £18 945.
