  • Gemballa Breaks the Long Term Sleep with Uprated McLaren 650S GT

Gemballa GT McLaren 650S Front ViewGemballa is a tuning company we haven’t heard of lately. However, it is time to spread its name once again because it has published a brand new project based on the McLaren 650S. The supersports car has been slightly modified and features minimal changes, but still it is one to dream of.

Starting-off with the carbon fiber body package, it comprises of subtle additions. Such are the new side skirts, which make the vehicle appear much lower and sleeker. For the badass look takes also care the new rear bumper, which is fitted with an integrated diffuser. The latter serves in terms of reducing the lift. Although these changes might seem not enough, the experts at the tuning company say that they help the McLaren 650S get additional downforce at cornering speeds.

Next, we continue with the wheels which are of two dimensions: 20- and 21-inches and are of the GForged-one type. The new alloys are relatively big and this means that they need new wheel arches where they can fit harmoniously. So the next logical step for Gemballa was to mount new carbon-fiber inner wheel arches, which deliver more space for the bigger wheels.

Gemballa GT McLaren 650S Rear View

Unfortunately, there are no details disclosed regarding the interior of this project, but we are sure that the tuning specialist can offer a lot options for a bespoke cabin.

At last, but not least, there is also an uprating done here which boosts the output with 20 horsepower and 49 Nm of torque. The optimization happened with the help of an ECU, which improved the biturbo 3.8-liter V8 engine and it now generates 670 horsepower (493 kW) and 726 Nm (536 lb-ft), instead of the standard 650 hp and 678 Nm (500 lb-ft). There are no details how the acceleration time was changed or whether the top speed was freed from the electronic limiter.

The pack for the McLaren 650S by Gemballa is priced at $38,286 USD.

McLaren 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 by MSO Front ViewThis is McLaren 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 by MSO and it is unique. Since there is no doubt about that let me tell you more. The car has debuted today at the Dubai International Motor Show as an exclusive to Middle East MSO project. The special model was accompanied by the 570S Coupé and a custom McLaren P1 at the event.

Why 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 is One-Off?

First, it has been developed by McLaren Special Operations. If you don’t know already, this is McLaren’s division responsible for bespoke craftsmanship. Secondly, the car will be available exclusively for Middle East customers. Third, it is dressed in a uniquely formulated paint scheme and carries bespoke specification.

‘Al Sahara’, which literally means ‘desert’ in Arabic, was the inspiration for the pearlescent white gold paintwork of the car. The paint finish includes a subtle shimmer, inspired by the golden sands. And exactly this shimmer has been achieved through the addition of 24 carat gold particles. By the way, the precious metal has an atomic number of 79. Now you get the whole picture, don’t you?

    Exterior & Interior

McLaren 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 by MSO Interior

Except for the one-off paint scheme, other really cool exterior features here are the retractable hard top and the gloss black lightweight forged alloy wheels. In addition, carbon fibre has been used for the side intakes, front splitter and rear diffuser as well as the MSO-branded Side Blades.

Inside, the cabin is wrapped in black and Almond White leather upholstery contrasted with the appropriate stitching. The Al Sahara 79 paint scheme can be seen on the steering wheel, centre console and door panels as well as around the heating and ventilation controls. At last, a dark golden finish has been utilized for the switchgear and heating vents.

    Power & Torque

McLaren 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 by MSO Side View

Just like the 650S Coupe and 650S Spider, the Al Sahara 79 is powered by the mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine. If you can’t recall the figures, the unit produces 650S PS (641bhp) at 7,250rpm and 678Nm (500lb-ft) of torque. 0-100 km/h is covered therefore in 3.0 seconds onto the way of reaching the top speed of 204 mph (329km/h). At the same time the car still manages to achieve 24.2mpg (EU combined) cycle and CO2 emissions of 275g/km.

Asking about the price? McLaren said that the 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 by MSO has a retail price of 1,456,308 AED.

  • Legend Reborn: McLaren 650S Can-Am Will Again Rule the Track!

2016 McLaren 650S Can-AmBack in the ’60s and 70’s McLaren established itself as a leading force in one of the most extreme types of races, indeed the Cam-Am with winning five consecutive championships between 1967 and 1971. Impressive, right? And now, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the 1966 season, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) created a special lineup of 650s Can-Am models. The sweetie will be available for purchase in the Spring of 2016, exactly 50 years from the first race at Mont Tremblant, Canada. And being fully dedicated to the anniversary, the McLaren team will produce only 50 units.

    McLaren 650S Can-Am

In fact, the Can-Am series, or more precisely, the Canadian-American Challenge Cup series was a fierce battle around the most iconic circuits in North America and Canada. These races attracted the best drivers and even Graham Hill, John Surtees, Jackie Stewart and Bruce McLaren participated in the events.

SEE ALSO: McLaren 650S Coupe – Official Images And Details Released

In fact, key to the success of the Can-Am racers was the use of advanced technologies and components. The engineering team used mainly lightweight aluminum and mallite, along with carbon-fiber components for the MonoCell chassis. Furthermore, carbon material was also used for the bonnet, Airbrake, front splitter, rear bumper centre, door blades and more. MSO has also created and special lightweight forged alloy wheels, inspired by the 1960’s race era. The vehicles also include carbon-fiber louvered front wings and fresh quad-exit polished stainless steel exhaust system. Sweet, huh?

    McLaren 650S Can-Am

And just like the original 650S Spider, the new-old machine is geared with the award-winning 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces a total of 641 hp (471 kW) and 678 Nm (500 lb-ft) of torque. This combination takes the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) for mere three seconds and offers a top speed of 329 km/h (204 mph).

And when it comes to exterior colors, McLaren knows how it’s done. The launch color is a Mars Red, inspired by the M1B, raced by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon in the debut season. The second color is a Papaya Spark which gives that contemporary appearance and the last one is Onyx Black which is similar to the base color used by many of McLaren’s customers in later seasons.

  • McLaren 650S Spider Joins 650S Coupe In Geneva World Debut

McLaren-650S-Spider-THUMBThe open top McLaren 650S Spider is currently sharing a world premiere with the 650S Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show. The brand has also released images and full information for the convertible version of its latest model.

650S Spider offers the same performance, handling and driver enjoyment as its coupe sibling, but adds a two-piece retractable hard top. At the event, the car is shown in Tarocco Orange, which is a new paint finish added to the McLaren colour collection.

The convertible is mechanically identical to the 650S Coupe and is fitted with the McLaren M838T twin turbo V8 engine. It generates 650 hp (478 kW) and 678 Nm (500 lb ft). Therefore the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is (no surprise) 3.0 seconds – absolutely identical to the Coupe veriosn, while the 0-200 km/h (124 mph) sprint is reached in 8.6 seconds, only additional 0.2 seconds in comparison wit the coupe.

Maximum speed is 329 km/h mph (204 mph) and the fuel consumption and emissions are the same as with the coupe – 24.2 mpg (11.7 l/100km) on the EU combined cycle and 275 g/km of CO2.

At the heart of the McLaren 650S is the carbon fibre MonoCell chassis that needs no additional strengthening or reinforcing. It lends the 650S Spider identical handling and ride, and virtually identical straight-line performance figures. The overall weight of the “cabrio” is 1,370 kg (dry). This makes 40 kg over the Coupe added from the Retractable Hard Top and roof mechanism.

The two-piece Retractable Hard Top automatically raises or lowers in less than 17 seconds. In addition, this Spider uses a heated glass rear window, operating independently of the roof. With the roof down, the rear window acts as a wind deflector, reducing cabin buffeting.

An interesting highlight regarding the 650S models is that their interior is not stripped-off, which is typical for the motorsport cars. Instead, the 650S Coupé and 650 Spider models are fitted with a high level of luxury equipment as standard.

For instance, carbon ceramic brakes sit behind unique ‘650’ lightweight alloy wheels. The latter are fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.
