  • Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Comes Stronger in 2016 Model Year

Chevrolet Silverados for MY20162016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is finally revealed after being partially teased in July. The debut happened today at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. Unfortunately back then we couldn’t grasp what’s new about it but we sincerely hope that this has changed and there is more to see from Chevy’s famous truck. All in all, the vehicle has more muscular design, more customer-focused technologies and other goodies that will grab future buyers’ attention. Here are the details.

What Has Changed for 2016 Model Year

The new generation Silverado features brand new muscular front end design, sculpted hood and signature LED lighting accents. In addition, the wheels will be driven by the eight-speed automatic transmissions. Additional safety technologies are also present: Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist and IntelliBeam high beam assist are in the list. Chevy has also updated its MyLink system and it now supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

    Distinctive Front

The new front end design is characterized by the advanced lighting and the strong Chevy Truck DNA. As you can see, the designers have integrated the lights into the sweeping horizontal elements and deep grille inserts, while the turn signals and brake lamps were wrapped around the corners of the truck.

In addition, the muscular front end is also strengthened by the sculpted hood. All trim levels include premium lighting with LED signature DRLs and park/turn lamps, while the LED fog lamps are only optional on LT and standard on LT Z71.

Furthermore, the LTZ, LTZ/Z71 and High Country models will be characterized by LED technology, including LED headlamps, daytime running lights, fog lights, park/turn signal lamps, and taillamps.

    Drivetrains

Chevrolet Silverado Front and Side View

2016 Silverado 1500 has a fully boxed high-strength steel frame and a body structure that make extensive use of high strength steels. However, what’s more impressive is the drivetrain range. It comprises of three advanced EcoTec3 engines that feature direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation known as Active Fuel Management. The trio can switch to four-cylinder mode under light-load conditions.

The first engine is Silverado’s standard 4.3L V6, which has been rated at 285 horsepower (210 kW) and 413 Nm (305 lb-ft) of torque. The second one is more powerful, the 5.3L V8, certified at 355 horsepower (261 kW) and 519 Nm (383 lb-ft) of torque.

At the top of the range stands the 6.2L V8, which can produce up to 420 horsepower (308 kW) and 623 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque. By the way, the new 8-speed automatic will come as a standard exactly in this engine-equipped Silverados. It will be also standard on LTZ, LTZ/Z71 and High Country Silverados with the 5.3L V8.

Now what do you think about this truck? Are these changes worth it or are they just unnecessary additional equipment?

  • There Are Significant Updates for 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500… That We Fail to See

2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71. Available fall of 2015.2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 features bolder looks, with more sculpted exterior, masculine presence that suggests dependability. The other new things are the available Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as the expanded use of the eight-speed transmissions. There is also additional safety technologies featured. And that’s it. It seems that the so called significant changes are not that significant after all.

Having in mind that Chevy’s pick-up trucks are on a roll this year with 32% higher sales for this year, this explains that why we are not going to see much changes in the model. Obviously the company is constantly trying to attract new buyers with minor updates to a good product. That’s not a bad thing though. But how much more could one get, given the fact that more goodies always mean more money?

    New Front End Design

Well, this is disputable, since 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 looks like a Chevrolet Silverado 1500, if you know what I mean. But updates regarding the exterior are there: the ‘more muscular’ appearance which is emphasized via the new ‘bold horizontal elements, sculpted hoods and dramatic lighting’, which seems to reflect the strength of the full-size pick-up. Dramatic lightning… oh, come on!

    Other Changes

Other changes are applied to the eight-speed automatic, which Chevy claims to be used more in the future Silverado. The company has also added an optional Chevy MyLink with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There are also additional safety technologies that haven’t been announced.

Since there is so less to say about this pick-up, I can’t stand behind the words ‘significant changes’ as Chevrolet did. Of course, we will still wait for more data to come and enlighten us, how this vehicle will be actually made better. And please, don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that Silverado 1500 is a bad machine. I am just trying to figure out where these major updates are.

Obviously, I have to wait until this fall, when the redesigned 2016 Silverado 1500 will make its official debut.
