  • Cadillac CT6 is Becoming PHEV

Cadillac CT6 PHEV Side ViewCadillac CT6 will be offered in the form of a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). This of course will be optional, with the greatest benefit that the PHEV system will improve fuel efficiency significantly. The electric energy that drives the car comes from an 18.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which is mounted between the rear seat and the trunk. The battery can be charged via 120V or 240V charger. Nonetheless, its range wasn’t announced yet. This will happen closer to U.S. launch.

What is more, this Cadillac’s PHEV combines a rear wheel electric variable transmission (EVT) with two-motor EVT, which is then mated to a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine. The petrol unit features spark-ignited direct injection and variable valve technology.

As a result, we have a combined system output of 335 hp (250 kW) and torque of 432 lb-ft (586 Nm). Just like the expected range, the fuel efficiency will be announced closer to launch.

Regenerative braking is the next exclusive feature in the CT6 hybrid. It will use the help of the iBooster and Electronic Stability Program in order to deliver optimum energy recovery. The system also provides better brake pedal feel and improved stop-start operation.

CT6 PHEV will have three operating modes: Normal, Sport and Hold, and will also feature Regen on Demand. The latter will allow for temporarily regeneration of energy which will be transformed in electricity and then stored into the battery pack. In fact, Regen on Demand is for more spirited driving and is engaged via steering-wheel paddle shifters.

So far so good, but I’m wondering whether Cadillac will apply this PHEV tendency onto its other models.

  • Cadillac CT6’s 3.0L Twin Turbo Unit to Develop 400HP [VIDEOS]

Cadillac CT6 3.0L Twin Turbo EngineThe information we know about 2016 Cadillac CT6 so far was that its debut is due in the last months of the year. In addition, it was said that car will incorporate the “prestige sedan” technology that is promised to deliver better driving dynamics. The most recent news on this model is that its debut will hurry and will happen in ten days in New York and that it will be powered by one of Cadillac’s new generation V-6 engines, and precisely the one that sits at the top of the range.

It is the 3.0L Twin Turbo gasoline unit that uses the latest technology. This means that we should also expect balance in terms of fuel economy and performance. Precisely, the CT6 will have a maximum output of 400 horsepower (298 kW) and 543 Nm (400 lb-ft of torque). This becomes even more impressive because the V-6 DOHC develops 133 horsepower (99 kW) per liter.

The big question here is how Cadillac is going to enhance the fuel economy given this high output. The answer is that the engine will deploy a combination of turbocharging with cylinder deactivation and stop/start technologies. No tests were conducted so far, but the company expects 6 percent improvement of the efficiency.

The other significant element helping in the achievement of this goal is the Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission that will be linked to the Twin Turbo engine. What is more, the low-inertia turbochargers in the powertrain will enable the car to achieve the peak torque from 2,500 rpm to 5,000 rpm.

After the debut of Cadillac CT6 in New York, we should expect its production to start in the fourth quarter of this year in company’s plant in Detroit.

  • Cadillac CT6 is Brand-New and will Debut in Late 2015

cadillac-c6-teaser-THUMBCadillac CT6 is a brand new model which will be positioned at the top of its range. Cadillac’s new and high technology “prestige sedan” will express an approach emphasizing a dynamic driving experience and advanced technology. The car will be launched in the last part of 2015, expanding company’s range. This actually means that it won’t replace any current product. CT6 will be positioned above today’s CTS and XTS product lines and is expected to join the elite group of top-class large luxury cars.

The vehicle is currently in development. It is an RWD-oriented sedan, which utilizes advanced, lightweight materials and new body construction techniques to enhance fuel economy, driving dynamics and safety.

In fact, this Cadillac is expected to be the lightest and most agile car in the class of large luxury sedans. It was also revealed that the model will feature some technology advancements that we have seen in the dynamic ATS and CTS product lines. Precisely, CT6 will employ a mixed material which combines the best and most efficient components optimized for each area of this new car.

The model carries a name which is derived from CTS. The name also indicates a coming shift to a simplified naming convention for future Cadillac models. This means that familiar lettering like “CT” would be used for car models, with the number indicating the relative size and position of the cars in the hierarchy of company’s models.

Cadillac CT6 will be built in Detroit at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant. Its production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of next year.
