  • 2015 Subaru WRX STI – Lap Record at the Isle of Man

2015 Subaru WRX STI managed to set a new lap record at the Isle of Man TT Road Course. Behind the steering wheel was the British rally champion Mark Higgins setting a new record of 19 minutes 26 seconds in a production version of the newly launched high-performance saloon.

Higgins finished the 60.82 km (37.8 miles) course with an average speed of 187.44 km/h (116.47 mph). The slashed over 30 seconds from the previous record of 19 minutes and 56.7 seconds with a 2010 WRX STI.

2015 Subaru WRX STI is powered by a 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine – 305HP (227 kW) and 393Nm (290 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a 6-speed manual transmission and a symmetrical all-wheel drive system.

“It was quite a lap we did today and I am really happy to have another record in the bank. The chassis on this new car is so much better it really allowed me to pick up time in each sector in the more technical parts of the course. I lost time on the second part of the track, overshooting my braking point at Sign Post corner. I actually hand-braked the turn in the end, so I feel we can definitely do better.”, commented Higgins.

  • 2015 Subaru WRX STI – Isle of Man Record Attempt

Subaru has plans to to set a new lap record at the Isle of Man TT course with the 2015 WRX STI. It is set to be driven by British rally champion Mark Higgins. The previous record is 19 minutes and 56.7 seconds, so the task is very tough.

2015 Subaru WRX STI is powered by a 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine – 305HP (227 kW) and 393Nm (290 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a 6-speed manual transmission and a symmetrical all-wheel drive system

The model, which will make the attempt is going to be equipped with retuned springs and dampers to “minimize any potential damage when the car encounters the many bumps – and jumps – at high speed along the course”. Other improvements feature a roll-cage, a racing harness and a fire suppression system.

“Setting the record was totally exhilarating and one of the highlights of my career – Bray Hill certainly added to the thrill! As a Manxman, I love the TT Races and I have a huge amount of respect for the TT riders and what they do. It will be a real honor to attempt a new fastest car lap.”, commented Mark Higgins.

  • 2015 Subaru WRX STI – Highlights [video]

Subaru has published an interesting video showing some of the highlights of the all-new 2015 WRX STI. The model is exhibited at the 2014 NAIAS in Detroit and can be examined by the public there.

2015 Subaru WRX STI is powered by a 2.5 liter turbocharged boxer engine – 309HP (227 kW) at 6,000RPM and 393Nm (290 lb-ft) at 4,000RPM, while the non-STI model has 272HP (200 kW) and 349Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque from a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbo boxer. No performance data available, but the WRX needs around 5.0 seconds for 0-100 km/h and the STI even less.

Both engines are available only with upgraded 6-speed manual sending the power to the symmetrical all-wheel drive system featuring a driver-controlled multi-mode center mechanical differential.

2015 WRX STI comes with 18” alloy wheels fitted with 245/40 R18 performance tires. There is also a performance braking system as well as an inverted-strut front suspension. The new WRX STI is available only as a sedan and it is scheduled to hit the market in Spring.

  • 2015 Subaru WRX STI Starts With Limited Launch Edition

Subaru-WRX-STI-Launch-Edition-shadowSubaru-WRX-STI-Launch-Edition-mediumAs promised, the 2015 Subaru WRX STI is now official at the Detroit Auto Show. In what can be described as a celebratory spirit, the Japanese company has decided to sell 1000 units of it in limited form called the Launch Edition. It’s more recognizable feature is the only available paint job called WR Blue Pearl. Gold-painted 18-inch BBS alloy wheels finish the legendary look.

In true STI nature, the power comes from a 2.5-liter flat six – the whole 315 hp package that is. This, along with an STI Short-Throw Shifter 6-speed manual, should bring a genuine sproting feel to the driving experience. It’s the whole package really. You get a rather stiff chassis, Active Torque Vectoring, Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD), Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive…gasps for air… Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), and SI-DRIVE powertrain control system. Don’t forget the Brembo disc brakes and the Super Sport ABS that overseers them. Wheel size: 245/40 R18 all around. Inside, you should be expecting Alcantara, a bit of leather, black on blue color prevalence and STI logos sewn here and there. The steering wheel is new and is as flat-bottomed as it can be.

The Launch Edition is pretty well equipped with luxuries that will appeal normal people as well (as opposed to gear heads who drink brake fluid for breakfast). Consider the Keyless entry system, LED low-beam headlights, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, heated wing mirrors, windshield wiper de-icer, HD radio system with great USB connectivity, a 4.3-inch LCD screen with loads of information on it.

  • 2015 Subaru WRX STI To Debut At NAIAS

2015-Subaru-WRX-STI-THUMBSubaru has announced that it will make an official introduction of the 2015 Subaru WRX STI at the North American International Auto Show on 14th of January in Detroit. Still, no images have been revealed so far and we don’t have even the slight idea of what the car will look like.

It is rumored that Subaru’s iconic performance flagship model will be equipped with 2.5-liter turbocharged engine which is expected to generate more than 300 horsepower. Another interesting rumor is that the STI will be probably sporting five doors.

2015 Subaru WRX made its official premiere at Los Angeles Auto Show in November last year. It is powered by a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder BOXER engine complemented by a twin-scroll turbocharger and an intercooler. The unit is capable of developing 268 hp (197 kW) at 5,600 rpm and 350 Nm (258 lb.-ft) of torque between 2,000 and 5,200 rpm.

What we hope to see on 14th January is that the STI is wider, edgier and definitely more powerful version of the WRX. 2015 Subaru WRX STI will make its debut in a week when more details will be revealed.

  • 2015 Subaru WRX Debut at Los Angeles Auto Show

    2015-Subaru-WRX-shadow2015-Subaru-WRX-medium

Exciting news from the LA Auto Show. The 2015 Subaru WRX is now a fact of life. It’s more powerful and better handling than its iconic predecessors. It is also the first WRX to feature a six-speed manual or, as an option, the newly developed Sport Lineartronic CVT that has two manual modes.

Subaru say that this latest WRX is an important evolutionary step for their rally-bred performance line. Technologically speaking, we see a new torque-vectoring system that adds to the already sophisticated Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive setup. The chassis is supposedly stiffer, the brakes are larger while the new powertrain returns more fuel-economy. In case you are wondring what that powertrain actually is, we are talking about a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder BOXER engine complemented by a twin-scroll turbocharger and an intercooler. Because of that, plus an unusally high compression rate (10.6:1), direct-injection, and Subaru’s Dual Active Valve Control System (D-AVCS), it develops 268 hp at 5,600 rpm and 258 lb.-ft of torque between 2,000 and 5,200 rpm. Not exactly the most powerful 2.0 engine in the world, but still blisteringly impressive.

There are also visual highlights worthy of mentioning. The hood, front fenders, rear doors and quarters, bumpers, and tailight clusters are all new. The now narrower headlights are supposed to remind us of a raptor’s stare. Maybe someone with more imagination can see that. We, on the other hand, will slowly back away and maybe remark on the standard 17-inch wheels which are “more aerodynamic” than before and are wrapped in 235/45 R17 94W Dunlop SP Sport Maxx RT tires.

What is the Sport Linetronic CVT then? Obviously, it is a continuously variable transmission. But one that can also switch between manners of changing gears – one mode allows stepped automatic shifting of eight pre-selected ratios. The other two are 6-speed and 8-speed “manual shifting modes” where the steering wheel paddle switches can be used.

If you go for the 6-speed manual, the Subaru WRX will be equipped with the brand’s Continuous AWD system. In normal circumstances a distribution box sends equal amounts of torque to both the front and back wheels. When grip becomes a luxury, however, most torque is sent to the wheel with most traction.

Should you go for the Sport Linetronic, you will also get the Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) type of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive – again a type of center differential but with an electronically controlled hydraulic transfer clutch control torque distribution (sheesh!) between the front and rear wheels. Most of the time you will be enjoying 55 percent of the toque going towards the back while the rest ends up at the front. But that can be subject to change depending on the driving conditions, steering wheel input, yaw and the lateral g-forces you are generating. Also, because of the Sport Lineartronic CVT, you get to play with Subaru’s Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) which offers three modes of powertrain settings – “Intelligent”, “Sport”, and “Sport Sharp”. Who’s going to use the second one?! “Oh, I don’t really want to drive economically but let’s be reasonable now.”

Because the wheel base is now one inch longer and the A-pillers are eight inches pulled forward at the bottom, there is a general feel of roominess. At the back, passengers will enjoy two inches more legroom and there’s more space in the boot. There’s leather on the flat-bottomed steering wheel and “soft-touch” materials on the dashboard, door trim and center console armrest. No expenses were spared on the IT department as well. A 4.3-inch LCD screen displays a plethora of information – you can put the rear-view camera display on it, or you can set the audio, Bluetooth and climate control settings from it. An additional 3.5-inch LCD sits between the two gauges in front of you. There you can keep track on the oil level, selected gear, and, of all things, window washer fluid. This will be also the first WRX that can come with a premium 440-watt, 9-speaker harman/kardon premium audio system and navigation with Aha® smartphone integration. Cool beans!

  • 2015 Subaru WRX Teased Ahead Of Official Reveal

2015-subaru-wrx-THUMBSubaru has just announced that it will exhibit the 2015 Subaru WRX at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The specifications in the model were made specifically for the US market, and in fact the car is making its world debut at the event.

The iconic Subaru’s AWD performance vehicle will be officially unveiled at the press briefing scheduled on 20th of November. A week ahead of the happening, the brand is also releasing a teaser image of the 2015 WRX, revealing its hood and front.

As one can see, the car includes more aggressive stance thanks to its rugged forms and imposing red paint finish. Subaru hasn’t released yet any details about the WRX but we expect to do it on the official reveal.

Next, to the all-new WRX, a design concept model will also make its world premiere. With both vehicles, the brand will stay committed to its statement: “Confidence in Motion” and will continue to pursue further growth and offer customers a future vision of “driving enjoyment and peace of mind”.
