  • Subaru Outback Has ‘Second Pair of Eyes’ for the Driver

There are exactly six model versions offered for the new 2015 Subaro Outback. Each pf them can be equipped with either of one engines coupled with manual or Lineartronic transmission. The fifth-generation model also gets new exterior design tweaks and technologies which care about occupants’ safety. In terms of appearance the new model looks a bit more rugged. At the front the bumper includes an integrated hexagonal grille and hawk-eye headlights.

The interior received the significant changes mainly through the use of new materials of higher quality. The cabin has also been made more spacious and comfortable and now includes more standard infotainment and sat nav systems.

Speaking of the “internals” of the vehicle, the engine range consists of two units. The first one is the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, which generates 150 hp (110 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. The other one is the naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre petrol unit that has power and torque outputs of 165 hp (121 kW) and 235 Nm (173 lb-ft) respectively.

The diesel engine can be coupled with either a six-speed manual transmission or the Lineartronic (CVT) transmission, while the petrol engines are exclusively matched with Lineartronic. Trim levels are two – SE and SE Premium, and when combined with one of the engines and transmission options, the total model variant range expands to six.

The SE models get as a standard automatic LED headlamps and headlamp washers, cruise control, Active Torque Vectoring, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, electrically-adjustable driver’s seat and privacy glass. The 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is also standard and includes satellite navigation, audio, smartphone connectivity and a rear view parking camera.

Those who have chosen SE model with petrol engine will also get emissions-reducing start-stop system and Subaru Intelligent Drive. And for those opting for SE Premium trim, they will get the additional sunroof, keyless entry and push-button start, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seats and a powered rear tailgate.

Safety systems are now enhanced with the addition of the EyeSight safety assist. This is literally a ‘second pair of eyes’ for the driver. This technology is there to help drivers prevent collisions. It employs two colour camera technology to monitor the road and traffic ahead for potential hazards, and comes as a standard.

2015 Subaru Outback is scheduled to go on sale in the UK from 1st of April with a starting price of £27,995.

The brand new redesigned 2015 Subaru Outback. One of the first crossover SUVs that was introduced back in the 1990-s. This car has never been what someone would consider to be a good looking car. But this redesigned 2015 model comes close. The front end of the car is redone with a sleeker look now. Subaru is well known for the symmetrical all-wheel drive. The Subaru 2015 Outback has the sack system built-in. The car is now made overall  quieter, coming along with nice aluminum 18-inch wheels.

The interior has been redone.  Because the car sits high off the ground, the seats are also high which makes it easy to get in and out. Very spacious, the rear seats, which can be heated, offer more than enough legroom and headroom. The seats can also be reclined, in case you need more space to lea back. A folding armrest with cup holders is installed as well in the back. The front seats of the Subaru 2015 Outback are extremely comfortable, especially the driver’s seat with a multitude of adjustments. A plush, convenient armrest with decent size cup holders makes sitting in the front a lot more convenient. The car offers a panoramic visibility. With an either manual or automatic gear shift selector. One downfall, is that the front passenger sit cannot be height adjusted, which can be really frustrating for most passengers. The standard infotainment system set up in the 2015 Outback is a 6.2 touch screen with a lot of features.  With big icons, pleasing graphics, really easy to use.

The new 2015 Subaru is a crossover SUV with an 8.7 inches of ground clearance which is really substantial and this helps to highly reduce cabin vibration.

Two new awesome features for the 2015 Subaru model are the Front aluminum light weight hood is extremely easy to open, just by pressing it  the hood just flies open by itself and Subaru did a really nice job with that. Nice hatch, which opens and closes automatically with the touch of a button located under the Subaru rear badge spacious trunk.  With a 35.5 cubic feet of cargo space, the trunk is perfect for fitting in luggage for a family vacation. The cargo cover can be fold in and out, providing even more space. The rear seats are 60/40 which can be reclined by the help of switches in the trunk providing and additional 73.3 cubic feet of cargo space.

This Subaru is equipped with a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine 175 hp, (which in my opinion seems under powered), connected to a standard all-wheel drive system with an active torque vectoring. It also has a continuously variable transmission with 6 pre-programmed gears in it which you can operate, using paddle shifter on the steering wheel. There is an option to upgrade to a 3.6 liter 6 cylinder engine with the same type of construction, makes 256 hp, probably more satisfying with the cost of more fuel consumption.EPA estimates you are going to get 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway with a combined fuel economy of 38 mpg.

There is very little to complain about this car. Aside from the disappointing fuel economy and the disappointing power, coming from the 4 cylinder engine, there are no complains.

  • Certain 2015 Subaru models earn Top Safety Pick+ awards

    2015-Subaru-Legacy_thumb2015-Subaru-Legacy_651

No matter what kind of car you drive on a daily basis, safety remains a top objective because after all the goal of travelling and driving in particular is to get where you want on time and well. This is the reason why many safety technologies get implemented in various cars and they tend to improve on a yearly basis. Still, it is really hard to pick a safe car but thanks to the efforts of the US Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) this task has become a bit easier.

The IIHS has just enriched your choice with the addition of the all-new 2015 Subaru Legacy and Subaru Outback, which have been given the 2014 Top Safety Pick+ designation. The new Subaru Legacy has achieved the highest possible rating of “good” in the Institute’s crashworthiness evaluations of front small overlap, front moderate overlap, side impact, roof crush and rear impact. The sedan also received a “superior” rating in the Institute’s front crash avoidance testing. The catch is that in order to have the 2014 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation the 2015 Subaru Legacy must have the optional EyeSight® driver-assist system.

The all-new 2015 Subaru Outback has also achieved the highest possible rating of ‘good’ in the Institute’s crashworthiness evaluations, as well as a “superior” rating in the front crash avoidance testing. Just like in the 2015 Subaru Legacy case, the new 2015 Subaru Outback needs to be equipped with the optional EyeSight® driver-assist system.

Subaru is also proud to announce that seven Subaru models, including the BRZ, Impreza, WRX/STI and XV Crosstrek, have earned 2014 safety awards from IIHS – four with Top Safety Pick and three with Top Safety Pick+ including its Forester, Legacy and Outback models equipped with optional EyeSight®. As Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America, Inc., says “The Institute’s findings reinforce our dedication to building safe vehicles. We are proud of the 2014 Top Safety Pick endorsement for every Subaru vehicle in our line-up.”
