  • 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 – US Pricing Announced

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is finally going on sale. This model is the most powerful and technologically advanced car in General Motors’ history. Z06 is offered in coupe and convertible form in three trims: 1LZ, 2LZ and 3LZ. The new Z06 features stronger aluminum frame, an aero package delivering more downforce and supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine. The unit is rated at 650 horsepower (485 kW) and 650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm).

Advanced technologies are also introduced on the Corvette Stingray, such as direct injection and Active Fuel Management. Combined with the fuel-efficient multi-speed transmissions, aerodynamic design and lightweight construction, these features make the new Z06 surprisingly efficient.

Additional technologies enhancing performance and driving experience include the third-generation Magnetic Selective Ride Control, Performance Traction Management, and an electronic limited-slip differential. Furthermore, Z06 offers three increasing levels of aerodynamic downforce. The first one is the standard Z06 which includes a front splitter, spats around the front wheel openings, a unique carbon-fiber hood with a larger vent, and an aggressive rear spoiler.

The second one is the available carbon-fiber aero package which is offered in either carbon flash paint or a visible carbon-fiber finish. This pack comprises a carbon-fiber front splitter with aviation-style winglets, carbon fiber rocker panels, and a larger rear spoiler with a fixed wickerbill. At last, the available Z07 package adds larger winglets to the front splitter. There are also adjustable sections on the rear spoiler for track use.

The new Corvette will also feature for the first time the innovative Performance Data Recorder (PDR). This technology enables users to record high-definition video, with telemetry overlays, of their driving experiences on and off the track.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has a starting price of $78,995, while the convertible model will start at $83,995.

  • 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 – The Most Powerful Production Car by GM

Chevrolet has officially announced the final output numbers for the 2015 Corvette Z06. The sports car is scheduled to hit the market in the end of this year.

“The LT4 Small Block sets a new benchmark for power and torque at GM,” commented Steve Kiefer, vice president, GM Powertrain Engineering.

“The engine also puts the new Corvette Z06 on par with the most powerful supercars offered in America, while delivering performance with impeccable manners that make it suitable for daily driving.”, he added.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is powered by a 6.2 liter LT4 supercharged V8 – 650HP (485 kW) at 6,400RPM and 880Nm (650 lb-ft) at 3,600RPM. This makes it the most powerful production car ever made by General Motors. The driver has a whopping 619Nm (457 lb-ft) of torque from idle and 847Nm (625 lb-ft) from just 2,800RPM. The engine is connected to a standard 6-speed manual gearbox or a newly developed 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission.

“Torque is the pulling power of an engine and the LT4’s abundance of it at every rpm in the engine’s speed range helps the 2015 Corvette Z06 accelerate quicker and respond nearly instantaneously,” said Jordan Lee, chief engineer for Small Block engines.

“It’s the very definition of power on demand.”, he finished.

  • 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Gets Performance Data Recorder [VIDEO]

2015-CorvetteStingray-PDR-THUMBAt the Consumer Electronics Show Chevrolet announced the release of an industry-first Performance Data Recorder for the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The system basically enables users to record and share high-definition video, with professional-level motorsports telemetry overlays, of their driving experiences on and off the track.

Furthermore, the software also allows users to analyze their laps as well as gives them advices on how to improve their driving and lap times. The Performance Data Recorder (PDR) system is brought to life thanks to the professionals at Cosworth.

To go into details, the PDR system includes three major components. The first one is a 720p high-definition camera. The latter is positioned on within the windshield header trim and records the driver’s point-of-view through the windshield, while the sound is recorded via a dedicated microphone in the cabin.

The second component is a self-contained telemetry recorder which uses GPS receiver that operates at 5 hertz and allows more precise positioning and corner traces. The recorder delivers vehicle information such as engine speed and transmission-gear selection, braking force and steering-wheel angle.

At last, the third component is the SD-card slot in the glove box for recording and transferring video and vehicle data. For instance, an 8-gigabyte card can record approximately 200 minutes, while a 32-GB card – up to about 800 minutes.

What is more, the PDR system can record video with several data overlay options: Track Mode, Sport Mode, Touring Mode and Performance Mode. Then the video can be viewed on the Corvette Stingray’s eight-inch color touchscreen.

Finally, “Cosworth Toolbox” software has been specifically developed for those who want a more in-depth understanding of their performance. This software delivers professional-level motorsport data analysis.

In fact, the Cosworth Toolbox application works by overlaying recorded laps on a Bing-enabled satellite map of the track. Then it compares selected laps in terms of corner traces, vehicle speed, and cornering force in order to help drivers improve their driving consistency and ultimately their lap times.

Performance Data Recorder will be available with the start of the production of 2015 Chevrolet Corvette in the third quarter of 2014. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
