  • ‘Build Your Own’ Site by Chevy Goes Live

With the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado hitting Chevy Dealers across North America this fall, the introduction of the “Build Your Own” tool by Chevy couldn’t have gone live at a better time. As the marketing manager for the Colorado says, “Our truck lineup is all about giving truck buyers a choice”.

In their press release Chevrolet was able to put together some sample customized builds of the Colorado. But starting off the base extended-cab model has a 200-hp, 2.5l four cylinder engine, and starts off at just $20,995. Some of the unique sample builds they mention are:

    1. This package was simply designed for the working man or woman, with great towing and hauling capability. It includes a Z82 trailering package, and the beefier 3.6L V6 engine for better towing power.
    2. This package was designed for the polar opposite of the labor worker. It was designed for the purpose of simply getting a driver from point A to point B. It starts off with the 2WD Crew Cab, a spray-in bedliner, GearOn divider and tie down rings.

These are just a couple of the sample custom packages that they have using the “Build Your Own” tool from their website. The beauty of this tool it will give each and everyone their own freedom to add whatever options they feel are necessary for their day to day needs.

  • 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon

The new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon will have more power than expected. Both pick-up trucks are expected to hit the market this fall. They feature a number of upgrades including two revised engines, high-quality materials and impressive capabilities.

The engine range includes a 2.5 liter four-cylinder – 200HP (149 kW) and 258Nm (191 lb-ft) of torque and a 3.6 liter V6 with 305HP (227 kW) and 364Nm (227 lb-ft). Both are connected to a 6-speed matic transmission that has been “specifically” designed for trucks and offers auto grade braking and a tow mode. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be also available, but only for the extended cab models with rear-wheel drive.

The Colorado and Canyon will also provide class-leading maximum trailering capabilities, with the capacity to tow up to 7,000 pounds when properly equipped. That’s more than enough to take a truck full of friends, gear in the bed, and a trailer full of toys to your favorite weekend adventure.

“Every decision we made considered the wants and needs of midsize truck customers. The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are engineered to deliver class leading horsepower,” said Anita Burke, vehicle chief engineer for Midsize Trucks.

“Not everyone needs the size or the capability of a full-sized pickup. Now customers have a viable option in a smaller package.”, she added.

  • Advanced Materials Reduce Weight Of 2015 Chevrolet Colorado

2015-Chevrolet-Colorado-SteelStructure-THUMBWhat’s new about 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is that it has been built with engineering techniques and lightweight materials. The result is a true pickup capability in a mass-efficient midsize package. In fact, the new 4×4 crew cab weighs 880 to 1,400 less than a full-size truck.

To be more precise, the savings in weight are result of the smaller overall dimensions of the model as well as the extensive utilization of lightweight materials such as high-strength steels and aluminum.

In overall size, Colorado is 212.76 inches long, 74.3 inches wide, but still can deliver up to 6,700 pounds of towing capability. In the design and construction of this Colorado, GM engineers have utilized materials that would guarantee strength, safety and refinement, and at the same time – dependability.

Lightweight, high-strength steels are used for the creation of the fully boxed frames, thus delivering less weight and more stiffness for a quieter ride and better handling. About 71 percent of the body structure is comprised of high-strength steels. In addition, the pickup box consists of roll-formed steel that is lighter and stronger than traditional stamped steel.

To go even further into details, the major aluminum components feature the hood, front steering knuckles, and cylinder heads and engine blocks for both the 2.5L four cylinder and 3.6L V-6 engines. At the front, there is composite grille opening reinforcement with active shutters that seals the front of the truck, reducing aerodynamic drag and improving cooling performance.

The electric power steering not only helps improve steering assist but also contributes for the weight savings. Speaking about the engines, both include direct fuel injection and continuously variable valve timing. The standard one is the 2.5L four cylinder unit which produces 193 horsepower (142 kW), while the available V-6 powertrain generates 302 horsepower (222 kW).

2015 Chevrolet Colorado will be available in dealerships this fall.
