  • 2014 Cevrolet Corvette Stingray Rated At 460 Horsepower

The latest SAE certifications have confirmed that the 2014 Corvette Stingray has the most powerful standard engine ever. Namely, the new LT1 6.2L V-8 engine has been rated officially at 460 horsepower (343 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 465 lb-ft of torque (630 Nm) at 4,600 rpm, with the available performance exhaust system.

The Stingray is SAE-certified at 455 horsepower (339 kW) and 460 lb-ft (624 Nm) with the standard exhaust system. These numbers signify that the particular Corvette model has the highest standard power ratings ever. In addition the efficiency that it shows is expected to exceed 26 mpg on the highway.

Therefore, drivers can expect to experience even greater acceleration because the power and torque of the unit surpass many other engines offered on the market. As a matter of fact, at 74 horsepower per liter, the LT1 offers greater power density than the C6 Corvette’s LS3 6.2L engine and even the C6 Z06’s racing-derived 7.0L LS7.

In addition, it also generates torque up to 4,700 with 316 lb-ft available at only 1,000 rpm and 90 percent of peak torque available from 3,000 rpm to 5,500 rpm. This of course results in nothing else but outstanding acceleration at all speeds.

What is more, the official results show that the Chevrolet can sprint form standstill to 100 km/h in less than four seconds. The high power density and efficiency of the engine are due to several advanced technologies such as direct injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing.

First of all, the direct injection is the main reason for unit’s combustion efficiency. It also ensures that there is a complete burn of the fuel in the air-fuel mixture which is achieved by precisely controlling the mixture motion and fuel injection spray pattern. The same technology also keeps the combustion chamber cooler resulting in higher compression ratio and reduced emissions.

Secondly, the Active Fuel Management is a synonym of cylinder deactivation. It is the first-ever application which helps save fuel by shutting down half of the engine’s cylinders in light-load driving. Thirdly, the continuously variable valve timing is now upgraded and it support the LT1 AFM and direct injection systems. The effect is additional enhancement of the performance, efficiency and emissions.

These three technologies on other hand support the new advanced combustion system. The latter includes new cylinder-head and sculpted piston design, which in turn contributes towards high-compression.

It is also important to mention the other engine features include that play their part here. These are the advanced oiling system with oil-spray piston cooling and available dry-sump oiling, engine-mounted camshaft-driven fuel pump, intake manifold with “runners in a box” design, four-into-one exhaust manifolds based on the design of the LS7 engine, Small Block legacy.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe will be available at dealerships this autumn while its Convertible sibling – by the end of the year.

  • Geneva Motor Show: Chevrolet Unveils Corvette Stingray Convertible [VIDEO]

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible has just been unveiled by the brand at the start of this year’s Geneva Motor Show. It has an estimated 450 horsepower (335 kW) and 450 lb.-ft. of torque (610 Nm), which makes it the most powerful standard Corvette in history.

Of course, everything we have seen in the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe we are to find in its cabrio sibling. The only structural changes are limited to accommodations for the folding top and repositioned safety belt mounts. The highlight in both models is the new and more rigid aluminum frame structure, which is 57 percent stiffer and 45 kg lighter than the current steel frame.

All models are powered by the LT1 6.2L V-8 which delivers 450 horsepower (335 kW). The unit combines several advanced technologies such as direct injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing to support an advanced combustion system designed to balance power and efficiency.

In addition, what is new here is the fully electronic top that can be lowered remotely using the key fob. The top can also be opened or closed on the go, at speeds up to 50 km/h. A thick, three-ply fabric top, along with sound-absorbing padding and a glass rear window, contributes to a quiet cabin and premium appearance.

When the top is down, Corvette Stingray’s signature profile is further accentuated. Behind the seat backs, dual black accent panels enhance the character lines of the tonneau cover. Here the exterior color is brought into the interior as well and complements it perfectly.

What is more, it has to be mentioned that this Chevrolet model has a sculptured exterior with advanced high-intensity discharge and light-emitting diode lighting and racing-proven aerodynamics that balance low drag for efficiency and performance elements for enhanced stability and track capability.

Furthermore, the interior includes a carbon fibre and aluminium trim, hand-wrapped leather materials, dual eight-inch configurable driver/infotainment screens, and two new seat choices. Some of the advanced driver technologies featured in the model are the five-position Drive Mode Selector and a new seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching.

Lightweight materials such as carbon fibre hood and carbon fibre removable roof panel; composite fenders, doors and rear quarter panels; carbon-nano composite underbody panels and a new aluminium frame are improving the weight for an optimal 50/50 weight balance that supports a world-class power-to-weight ratio.

In addition, the model is equipped with track-capable Z51 Performance Package, which comes with an electronic limited-slip differential, dry-sump oiling system, integral brake, differential and transmission cooling, as well as a unique aero package that further enhances the high-speed stability.

Both 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe and Convertible will be available at dealerships in the end of this year.

  • 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible To Debut In Geneva

2014-Chevrolet-Corvette-Stingray-Cabrio-THUMBAlthough we have already seen 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray debuting a month ago at this year’s North American International Auto Show, we haven’t seen something more from it. By “more” I mean that Chevrolet has just announced that it is going to show a convertible version of the exceptional car for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Corvette Stingray convertible will deliver the same balance of technology as its sibling and will have almost the same design. In terms of performance we are to see here again that which was introduced on the coupe in January in Detroit.

The first Stingray coupe was sold at Barrett-Jackson’s auction for over one million dollars. Its convertible twin, the first retail production model, will also be launched at the collector car auction to benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

In Geneva, Chevrolet will also show for the first time in European the Spark EV – the electric five-door mini car.
