Honda will include Apple’s Siri Eyes Free Technology Into some of its most successful model ranges. Siri is the intelligent assistant that helps the occupants get things done just by asking, and it is going to be integrated in 2013 Honda Accord, Acura RDX and ILX models as an option.
In the technology will be added a Using Eyes Free mode, thanks to which Siri takes hands-free functionality even further and minimizes distractions even more by keeping the iOS device’s screen from lighting up.
With this step Honda is expecting to meet the connectivity and convenience needs of its customers in a responsible manner. For this reason, the brand has reengineered its software to seamlessly integrate Siri Eyes Free mode into its Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® via the onboard microphone and speakers.
Honda has just released the first video in a series of short films. The goal is to highlight environmental initiatives undertaken by the brand. Honda’s ultimate aim is to reduce the company’s environmental impact and create a sustainable future.
The film series will focus on Honda’s efforts at creating more fuel-efficient, low emissions vehicles. In addition, they will also show the efforts to lessen the impact of the company’s manufacturing and logistics operations.
Below you can view the first film in the series, named “Paint by Numbers”. You will understand the story of how a Honda senior staff engineer, Shubho Bhattacharya, developed the technology which reduces energy consumption in the automobile body painting process.
“The largest amount of energy that’s consumed in a car factory is in the painting process. In fact, the painting process consumes about 60 percent of a typical car factory’s energy consumption”, says Bhattacharya.
The engineer created the Intelligent Paint Technology. As a result there is now decrease of CO2 emissions from painting operations by approximately 25 percent. This represents the reduction of approximately 10 000 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year at Honda’s seven auto plants in North America.
Introducing the 2013 Honda Accord and Accord Sedan which now boast a revised exterior that’s been “designed to stand the test of time”. More space inside is also promised. No word about the oily bits so for now we’ll just have to make do with the design ques
Starting off with a redesigned grille,Honda accent on the sporty DNA of the family. That way the hood with its many lines and curves is also being complemented. Further back to the sides, a sense of emotion comes largely from the distinctive line that goes through the door handles and flares upward toward the rear. Another line defines the rocker panel and makes a clever little swoosh towards the end. At the back, an inward slope at the top of the fenders, leaves a curvy and purposeful stance.
Inside, through the use of some Feng shui, more passenger and luggage space has been created. At the same time, both the 2013 Coupe and Sedan are actually shorter than previous models. “This car is the most sculpted and the most dynamic Accord yet,” said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of product planning for American Honda. “Following Honda’s long-held philosophy of ‘man maximum, machine minimum,’ the beautiful exterior evolved from a focus on interior space and the needs of the people inside it.”
More information about the new Accord will be brought this fall right before the official release.
Honda has revealed the Accord Coupe Concept today at the North American International Auto Show. The new ninth-generation 2013 model is set to go on-sale this fall. It boasts cutting edge technologies combined with bold design and nice powerful engines.
“Marking the 30th anniversary of U.S. production, this new ninth-generation Accord will raise the bar again through a tour de force of new Honda powertrain and safety technologies, geared to ensure that Honda and the Accord continue to lead in fuel economy, safety and fun-to-drive performance,” commented John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda.
The engine range includes a new 2.4 liter Earth Dreams with 184PS (135 kW) and 240Nm (177 lb-ft). It is coupled with a 6-speed manual or a new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). There is also a hybrid model with a 163PS (120 kW) electric motor and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine. Last, but not least, Accord can be power by a mighty 3.5-liter V6 with 314PS (231 kW) and 359Nm (265 lb-ft). It can be connected to a 6-speed manual or a new 6-speed automatic.
The new Accord will be available with Honda’s first application of Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) technology. Both systems use a camera mounted behind the windshield to alert drivers if the car is moving out of its lane or to warn drivers of a potential collision in front of them.
The standard equipment is amazing, but the most interesting features are the Bluetooth 3 HandsFreeLink phone interface, a full-color intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID) and an SMS text messaging function. Another standard feature and first for the Accord is the introduction of a Pandora Internet Radio interface4, compatible with the Apple iPhone, which works with the vehicle’s audio controls and i-MID.
