The new 2012 Subaru XV is winner in one of the hardest-fought categories in a special ‘4×4 of the Year’ issue. The SUV market has expanded rapidly in recent years with the proliferation of compact crossovers, and 4×4 Magazine placed Subaru’s latest All-Wheel Drive model ahead of key rivals from Audi, Kia, Mazda, Nissan and Volkswagen.
The Subaru XV range starts at £21,295 on the road and is available with 1.6 petrol manual or CVT, 2.0 petrol manual or CVT and 2.0D manual options.
“The SUV class in 4×4 Magazine’s 4×4 of the Year test is one of the most competitive. The Subaru XV was an interesting new arrival in that class, which did much to impress judges.”, commented Nigel Fryatt, Editor, 4×4 Magazine.
“For a vehicle which obviously spends most of its time on-road, it is such an enjoyable drive, involving the driver in a positive manner. It also boasts promising fuel economy potential. When we took it off-road, given the obvious limitations of ground clearance, the Subaru completed our test route with ease. But what clinched it for the XV was Subaru’s Everything Taken Care of customer service package, which has to be one of the best around.”, he finished.
Subaru brand has just announced that its 2012 Subaru XV is awarded with the highest possible rating – five-star – by EuroNCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) for its overall safety performance. Another highlight here us that five star rating is being awarded to the Subaru XV model for the second consecutive year.
Subaru further improved its unique “ring-shaped reinforcement frame body” by optimizing the impact energy relay structure. The use of high tensile steel was also increased on the new Subaru XV. All these features actually allow the reduction in weight, higher collision safety performance to impacts from all directions, and improved passenger safety. Furthermore, additional airbags have been installed in the front seats, driver’s knee, and sides. The above features are topped with VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control), which now is standard equipment on all models. Subaru has announced its XV model at the 64th Frankfurt Motor Show. The vehicle will hit the market in just 2 months with pre selling, and first deliveries mid January 2012. The price list is not announced, yet.
The fundamental product concept that Subaru adopted for the XV is “Urban Adventure.” In specific terms, a vehicle that would be perfectly suited to exciting, lively, yet stress-free use in the city. Thus, Subaru balanced optimal performance factors such as fuel efficiency and enjoyable driving (Fun to Drive) with a stylish, highly distinctive exterior design.
The exterior boasts a stylish, flowing form with a high body and side cladding that enhances the sense of functionality of SUV. There are a hexagon grille and hawk eye headlights at the front.
The corners of the front and rear bumpers were designed with special edges that enhance the aerodynamic performance of the vehicle and also contribute to better fuel efficiency
Inside, you will find horizontally styled instrument panel, luxury materials – leather, metal, and cloth. There is a large 4.3” full-colour LCD equipped with advanced infotainment such as eco-driving display and vehicle information display which supports the driver in a great many ways.
The engine range includes 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre petrol models. Together with the adoption of the new Lineartronic (CVT), a newly developed “Auto Start Stop System”, the fuel efficiency was further improved. Also the Subaru Boxer Diesel, which was specially developed for the European market and received very favourable reviews, is featured in the XV line-up and is the most likely model to arrive in Ireland.

Safety:
By integrating the partition windows into the front doors and putting the door mirrors on the door panels, top-level forward visibility in this class was achieved, and blind angles were reduced. A stylish profile with a more streamlined rear roof edge was designed without impairing the rear field of view.
In addition to SRS driver’s/passenger’s airbags, SRS side airbags and SRS curtain airbags, SRS driver’s knee airbag are installed as standard in all models.
VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) is installed in all models as standard. Its intervention timing was optimised and incorporates control logic that demonstrates effectiveness in danger avoidance situations. A brake assist function is also incorporated into the VDC system. This provides the XV with world leading danger avoidance performance and increases driving confidence.
