  • Vauxhall reveals 2022 Astra Sports Tourer

2022 Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Front Angle

Following the world premiere of the next-generation Astra hatchback in September, Vauxhall has today unveiled the estate model, the All-new Astra Sports Tourer. The newcomer will be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain right from launch, making it the British carmaker’s first electrified estate.

First bold and pure estate: All-new Astra Sports Tourer with Vauxhall Vizor and Pure Panel

Together with its five-door hatchback sibling, the stylish Astra Sports Tourer is a true design statement and Vauxhall’s first estate to carry the brand’s new bold and pure design philosophy. The Vauxhall Vizor front end features a single, clean panel that houses the new Griffin logo and various driver and safety aids, helping the Astra Sports Tourer achieve a clean and sharp front end. The Vizor front end also houses the LED head lights and front camera.

At the rear, the Vauxhall Griffin sits at the centre of the tailgate, with the rear end featuring the same vertically aligned, high-mounted brake lights as the Astra hatchback – further strengthening the Astra family ties.

The design revolution continues inside. The fully digital Pure Panel human-machine-interface (HMI) offers customers a pure, intuitive experience and features a 10-inch driver instrument cluster and a 10-inch digital touchscreen. Important settings such as climate control can still be selected directly via physical switches below the console for ease of access. The Astra Sports Tourer provides drivers and passengers with the latest in smartphone connectivity, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto as standard across all models.

Measuring 4,642mm long, 1,860mm wide and 1,480mm tall, and with a loading height of 600mm, the practical Astra Sports Tourer further strengthens Vauxhall’s leading reputation in the estate sector and is another showcase of Vauxhall’s known talent for efficient packaging. The overall length is 60mm shorter compared to the previous generation Astra Tourer, thanks to the short front overhang, and features a 57mm longer wheelbase compared to the All-new Astra hatchback, at 2,732mm.

Practical and versatile: “Intelli-Space” moveable floor

The boot of the Astra Sports Tourer provides up to 608 litres of useful storage space with the rear seats upright, and up to 1,634 litres when folded. In addition, when the 40:20:40-split rear seats are folded, the floor is completely flat – making it easier to load long and bulky items. Even with its underfloor lithium-ion battery, the plug-in hybrid variant offers cargo volumes of 548 litres and 1,574 litres respectively.

Petrol and diesel variants of the Astra Sports Tourer can be specified with the optional “Intelli-Space” feature. This moveable load floor can be easily adjusted with one hand to high and low positions and tilted at a 45-degree angle. In addition, for even more convenience, the retractable boot storage cover can be stowed when the moveable floor is in both the upper as well as the lower position – in contrast to competitors that only allow stowage of the cover when the floor is in the upper position.

The Astra Sports Tourer with “Intelli-Space” can also make life easier in the event of a flat tyre. The kits for tyre repair and first aid are stored in clever underfloor compartments that can be accessed from the boot or rear passenger seating area. This means that the kits can be reached without needing to fully unpack the boot.

    Outstanding seating comfort

The Astra Tourer also provides unrivalled comfort for drivers, typical of Vauxhall. Developed in-house, the front seats of the Astra Sports Tourer are certified by Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.  The ultra-ergonomic seats are the best the compact class has to offer, and are exceedingly comfortable, especially on long journeys.

    Powertrains

The Astra Sports Tourer will be available with plug-in hybrid technology that produces up to a combined 225PS. In addition to plug-in hybrid versions, the Astra Sports Tourer will be available with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines. Power ranges from 110PS to 130PS across the petrol and diesel variants. A six-speed gearbox is standard on the petrol and diesel power units, while plug-in hybrid variants come standard with Vauxhall’s smooth eight-speed automatic.

Vauxhall will open the order books for the All-new Astra Sports Tourer early next year. The first customers will take delivery of their cars in early summer 2022. Further details including UK pricing and specification will be announced at the on sale date.

  • Genesis unveils G90 exterior images

    2023 Genesis G90 - Front Angle

Genesis has officially revealed exterior images of G90, the latest version of the brand’s flagship sedan.

G90 follows the brand’s naming scheme, combining the letter ‘G’ for Genesis and the number ‘90’ indicating that it is the brand’s flagship.

G90’s appearance is the most elegant interpretation of the brand’s design philosophy of Athletic Elegance yet, showcasing that it is a flagship capable of providing truly elevated experiences.

The model’s front fascia consists of a new Crest Grille and sleek Two-Line lamps that resembles the brand’s emblem. The Crest Grille takes G90’s look to the next level with its Layered Architecture finish, which is comprised of two G-Matrix patterns layered on top of one another to create a three-dimensional effect.

The headlamps, located on both sides of the grille, feature the thinnest Two-Line design lamps ever created by Genesis. This was achieved by intercrossing the lens of the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) with low beam powered by MLA technology, ensuring the headlamps’ thin lines.

G90’s status as a best-in-class sedan is further cemented with its Clamshell Hood, a single panel that combines the hood and fenders in order to eliminate panel gaps and create a sleek impression. This sleekness is also embodied in the Guilloché pattern-applied emblem, which is nearly eighty percent thinner than seen on previous emblems.

Harmony of its Parabolic Line and Daylight Opening (DLO) to the side further evoke the impression of an authentic sedan.

When viewed from the side, the Parabolic Line design starts from the hood and flows along the bottom of the window to the trunk in a seamless line. The vehicle’s refined and voluminous body has been further enhanced with the Athletic Power Lines on the fenders around the wheels, projecting power and dynamism.

The DLOs that surround the first and second-row seat windows are designed in harmony with its thick C-pillars. This offers second-row passengers both an open atmosphere and privacy at the same time, ultimately coming together to complete the model’s image as a best-in-class sedan.

The elegant proportions of the wide rear grant the model a strong and well-balanced image. The Two-Line rear combination lamps – key elements of the Genesis design language – are elongated along the trunk, with Genesis’ lettering emblem placed between them.

To draw focus to the iconic Genesis design elements on the upper rear part of the vehicle, functional elements, such as the license plate, various sensors, and the reverse lights, have been placed toward the bottom to ensure that the rear offers a clean look.

Additionally, the Parabolic Line formed by the DLOs that surround the windows and the B-pillar are finished in chrome, allowing the long-wheelbase model’s side profile to make even more of an impression. The model also has exclusive front and rear bumper designs that feature chrome decorations on its rims for enhanced elegance and dynamism.

“G90 will redefine the flagship luxury design experience in a unique way only offered by Genesis.” said Head of Genesis Global Design, SangYup Lee. “G90 is the ultimate expression of Athletic Elegance that carefully balances dynamic driving and an elegant rear seat experience.”

More information on North American market specifications and deliveries will be available at a later date.

  • 2022 BMW Concept XM – power and luxury beyond all conventions.

2022 BMW Concept XM Front Angle

At Art Basel’s 2021 Miami Beach show, BMW M GmbH is presenting an expressive new vehicle concept on the global stage for the first time. The BMW Concept XM looks ahead to the most powerful BMW M car ever to go into series production, which is set to begin at the end of next year. At the same time, the BMW Concept XM shines the spotlight on standout aspects of the M brand. Electrification underpins an extraordinary driving experience which allows the driver to both glide along in near silence and enjoy the time-honoured pleasure of high performance, M-style. The BMW Concept XM provides a first glimpse of the new front-end design for BMW’s forthcoming luxury-class models. It will also introduce its audience to a highly progressive and distinctive take on BMW X model design and an all-new form of luxury and sense of space for the interior.

The series-production model – the BMW XM – will be built from the end of 2022 at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in the USA, the most important sales market for the new high-performance car. BMW M will therefore be introducing its first standalone vehicle since the legendary BMW M1 in the year it celebrates its 50th anniversary.  The BMW XM will be available in plug-in hybrid form only and exclusively as an M model.

The bold exterior styling of the Concept XM reflects the car’s exceptional performance attributes: dynamism, agility and precision, plus an all-electric range of up to 80 km. The newly developed M Hybrid drive system in the BMW Concept XM brings together a V8 engine and a high-performance electric motor to develop maximum output of 550 kW/750 hp and peak torque of 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft). The first electrified vehicle from BMW M GmbH in the high-performance segment is therefore pointing the way for the future of the brand.

“The BMW Concept XM represents a complete re-imagining of the high-performance car segment,” says Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “It underlines the ability of BMW M GmbH to break with established conventions and push boundaries in order to offer fans of the brand the ultimate driving experience. The series-production car – the first pure BMW M model since the legendary BMW M1 – also shows how we are approaching the step-by-step electrification of our brand.”

BMW M goes its own way in the luxury segment.

The BMW Concept XM sees BMW M GmbH forging a distinctive path in the luxury segment. The car’s exterior majors on presence and extrovert appeal. Inside the car, a special take on the driver-focused cockpit for which M models are renowned meets an all-new rear compartment design: with its high-comfort seats and illuminated, sculptural headliner, the M Lounge offers passengers a luxurious retreat.

“The design of the BMW Concept XM is an extravagant statement by BMW M in the heart of the luxury segment,” says Domagoj Dukec, Head of BMW Design. “It has a unique identity and embodies an expressive lifestyle like no other model in the BMW line-up.”

The front end: progressive design for maximum presence.

The BMW Concept XM debuts the new, progressive front-end design for BMW’s luxury-class models, a version of which will be seen for the first time in 2022 as part of the BMW model offensive in the luxury segment. The headlights have been split into two separate modules, a new design feature which creates a visually arresting appearance. The daytime driving light signature in the sharply styled, slim upper module is particularly eye-catching. The horizontal kidney grille sits boldly between the headlights and tapers towards the outer edges, producing a near-octagonal outline that emphasises the front end’s dynamic character. The black kidney grille elements are enclosed within an intricate surround and appear almost to be floating freely within a High-gloss Black surface. M-style double bars within the grille add to the perception of width. Eye-catching contour lighting sets off the grille to fine effect, ensuring the striking composition of kidneys and daytime driving lights is immediately recognisable in the dark as well. The new XM logo in the kidney grille and the large air intakes hint at the power of the V8 engine, which teams up with the electric motor to form the M Hybrid system.

M-specific details point to compromise-free performance.

The glasshouse of the BMW Concept XM rises up vertically, accentuating the front end’s strong, imposing feel. The colour of the roof contrasts with the black finish of the A-pillars. The windscreen seems to have an even heavier rake as a result, injecting modern dynamism into the front end. Slim LED searchlights have been incorporated into the roof above the A-pillars. The boldly sculpted bonnet extends the contours of the kidney grille back in the form of two power domes. A pair of air intakes in the bonnet mimic the appearance of the LED searchlights in the roof and add extra dynamic flair. Framing the statuesque body at its lower edge are the clean-cut black surfaces of the front apron. Triangular body-coloured blades at the outer edges accentuate the vertical air intakes while emphasising the sporty and robust stance of the BMW Concept XM.

The side view: an expression of unbridled dynamism.

The powerful and heavily contoured proportions of the BMW Concept XM highlight the car’s resolutely standalone identity and draw the eye to the coupé-like character of the body. The visually striking front end, long bonnet and stretched, sloping roofline present a characterful two-box design with a distinctive outline. The window graphic narrows significantly as it approaches the rear, enriching the dynamism of the side view.

The two-tone paint finish of the BMW Concept XM further accentuates its distinctive lines: the upper section is in matt gold-bronze, while the lower section sports the Space Grey metallic shade. Below the window graphic, a broad, High-gloss Black line – the “black belt” – separates the two exterior colours. The signature M exterior mirrors give the car a clean-cut and technical, sporty edge. The charging flap rearwards of the front-left wheel is a reminder of the M Hybrid drive system at work.

2022 BMW Concept XM - Side

Throughout the side view, deliberately short character lines, which start off boldly before fading softly, accentuate the car’s agile, modern feel. The expressive rear lights extend well into the car’s flanks and create an eye-catching transition into the rear. The black cladding typical of BMW X models above the wheels and on the side skirts is very clearly defined and gives the body an elevated appearance. The elongated body sits on 23-inch light-alloy wheels, which bring extra power and solidity to the side view.

The rear : powerful stature and newly interpreted design.

The design of the rear end likewise accentuates the car’s powerful stature, and the BMW Concept XM cuts a low and sporty figure from this angle. The rear window is inserted almost seamlessly into the rear end. The fresh interpretation of the design can also be seen in the arrangement of the BMW logo, which is laser-etched into the window below each of the two cant rails. This is a stylistic reference to the BMW M1, to date the only example of a standalone model developed exclusively by BMW M GmbH.

2022 BMW Concept XM - Rear

Lower down at the rear end, prominently flared wheel arches draw attention to the car’s powerful stance on the road. Extremely slim and boldly L-shaped rear lights extending across almost the entire width of the rear add to the effect. The lights themselves have a dark appearance when not active, giving way to a precise and uniform shade of red when switched on. Dominating the rear apron are the characteristic twin tailpipes of BMW M models. The dual-branch, twin-tailpipe exhaust system employed here reduces backpressure for the V8 engine and also generates the emotionally rich M-typical soundtrack accompanying the engine’s imposing power delivery. The vertical arrangement and hexagonal interpretation of the tailpipes breathe new life into this classically iconic feature.

The interior design – high performance and extrovert luxury.

Inside the BMW Concept XM, the driver will find a distinctive M interpretation of driver-focused cockpit design. The lines and surface design of the instrument panel, centre console, door trim and seats give the ambience in the front compartment a progressive feel with their powerful geometry and high-quality materials. Brown, vintage-look leather, copper and carbon fibre create a bridge between luxury and motor sport. A bold trim element provides clear visual separation between the driver’s area and the other sections of the car.

Inside the cockpit area, a decorative surface made from carbon fibre with interwoven copper thread creates a sporty and exclusive base for displays, air vents and control/operating elements. The new BMW Curved Display screen grouping positioned above it creates a neat balance between traditional driver focus and modern digitality. Red accents on the steering wheel and centre console are M-specific references to the car’s sporting prowess. A trio of vertical elements presented in the three colours of the BMW M brand logo form the heart of the centre console.

2022 BMW Concept XM - Interior

Spacious and luxurious: the M Lounge.

The unwavering driver focus of the front compartment contrasts with the extravagant and luxurious lounge-like ambience in the rear of the BMW Concept XM. Special materials, visually powerful surfaces and expressive details turn the rear seats into the unique M Lounge, black-tinted rear side windows underscoring the abiding sense of privacy here. While warm brown leather dominates the cockpit, the rear is decked out in the rich colour shade Petrol. The large rear seat bench with its deep seat recesses forms an inviting space to relax. Only the diamond-shaped area of the head restraints – which provides the supporting function familiar from BMW M Sport seats in other models – is leather-trimmed. The lower sections of the seats offer high comfort and an exclusive couch character with their luxurious velvet upholstery and diamond quilting. Deep-pile carpeting with a diamond pattern adds to the exclusive impression.

Illuminated and sculptural: the headliner .

The visual highlight of the cabin is its headliner with a three-dimensional prism structure. A combination of indirect and direct lighting produces a relief-like structure which showcases the headliner as an exclusive work of art. Together with the ambient lighting, it highlights the BMW Concept XM’s blend of luxury and comfort to extremely striking effect. The ambient lighting can be activated in the three BMW M colours.

BMW Curved Display with M-specific user interface.

Based on the latest generation of BMW iDrive, the M-specific version of the control/operation system translates the high-performance character of the BMW Concept XM into the digital world. Showcased in the familiar three M colours, the user interface lends itself perfectly to a sporty driving experience. It visualises the modes of the hybrid drive system as well as the pure-electric driving mode with captivating aesthetic appeal. The BMW Curved Display provides the perfect stage for showing off this bespoke design and previews the user interface that will bring extra intensity to the driving experience in all future BMW M models.

  • 2022 Skoda Karoq: the successful model gets an update

2022 Skoda Karoq Sportline Front Angle

Four years after its launch, the ŠKODA KAROQ gets an update: the Czech carmaker has refreshed its second SUV model range to ensure its continued success. In addition to an even more refined design language, the update brings sustainable materials, new technology and more efficient engines from the current EVO generation to the compact SUV. Surpassed only by the OCTAVIA, the KODIAQ’s smaller brother was the second most delivered ŠKODA model worldwide in 2020, as well as in the first six months of 2021.

Thomas Schäfer, ŠKODA AUTO CEO, said: “With over half a million units sold, the KAROQ is key to our brand’s success. To ensure that this will remain the case, we have developed it further: now sporting a fresher design and optimised aerodynamics along with state-of-the-art assistance systems and infotainment features. I am confident that this overall package will enable us to continue the KAROQ’s success story.”

A fresh design, improved aerodynamics and sustainable materials in the interior

ŠKODA AUTO has continued to develop its design language for the revised KAROQ, making the SUV look even more striking. The wider, now hexagonal ŠKODA grille, slimmer headlights as well as tail lights, and aerodynamically optimised alloy wheels with black plastic Aero trim create fresh visual highlights.

The new wheels, rear window finlets and a new rear spoiler all improve the car’s aerodynamics while lowering its CO2 emissions. The interior features new upholstery which, as an option, can be made from sustainable materials. New technology – such as full-LED Matrix headlights and an expanded range of assistance systems – also debuts in the range. Five efficient engines from Volkswagen Group’s EVO generation round off the KAROQ’s update. Two diesels and three petrol engines deliver power outputs ranging from 81 kW (110 PS) to 140 kW (190 PS). The 2.0 TSI producing 140 kW is reserved for the KAROQ SPORTLINE and exclusively with all-wheel drive. The 2.0 TDI with an output of 110 kW is available with front- or all-wheel drive. Launched in 2017, the KAROQ was the Czech car manufacturer’s second SUV. Offering generous amounts of space, a high level of practicality and excellent value for money, it delivers on the brand’s promise. The KAROQ is produced in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia and China, and available in 60 countries.

Exterior: striking front profile and redesigned lights

More striking, more elongated and more aerodynamic: the updated KAROQ is characterised by the refined ŠKODA SUV design language. As with other models by the Czech brand, it now sports a wider, hexagonal ŠKODA grille, which – together with the new front apron – makes the KAROQ look more rugged. The headlights are slimmer, as are the tail lights, and feature a four-light cluster design, now also available with full-LED Matrix technology. A longer rear spoiler, a front apron with air curtains, aerodynamically optimised fuel tank undertrays and new alloy wheels with a diameter of 17, 18 or 19 inches help to reduce the car’s drag by more than 9% to a coefficient (cd) of 0.30. This makes the KAROQ one of the most aerodynamic cars in its segment.

Oliver Stefani, Head of ŠKODA Design, said: “The revised KAROQ now comes across as much more self-assured. The wider, hexagonal ŠKODA grille and the new bumper make the front more stunning. In addition, the slimmer, newly arranged LED headlights with a four-light cluster design lend the car a more dynamic look. The redesigned tail lights emphasise this appearance, while the new rear spoiler makes the KAROQ look longer.”

The restyled and sculptured bumper is body-coloured while the wide lower air inlet comes in a crystalline mesh-effect design. The L-shaped finishing touches on the sides accentuate the air curtains while a rugged, black-grained spoiler completes the front section. The air curtains direct the air through the sides of the front bumper as well as through the wheels, reducing air vortices and improving airflow. To reduce underbody drag, the all-wheel-drive KAROQ now comes with aerodynamically optimised fuel tank undertrays, which also cover the rear axle.

Newly arranged, slimmer headlights with full-LED Matrix technology as an option

The significantly slimmer headlights extend to the ŠKODA grille. Redesigned daytime running lights, which are now split in two, further accentuate the car’s dynamic look. For the optional top-end headlights, ŠKODA is offering full-LED Matrix technology for the KAROQ for the first time. Here, two LED modules are arranged one above the other. They provide low beam and high beam, and create a distinct four-light cluster, particularly in driving mode in the dark. Even the entry-level KAROQ comes with LED modules in the upper headlight as standard, with a separate fog light in the lower housing.

New rear apron and razor-sharp LED tail lights

New rear apron and razor-sharp LED tail lights The redesigned rear of the ŠKODA KAROQ is now adorned with an extended, body-coloured spoiler, which makes the vehicle look longer when viewed from the side. Together with side finlets, as seen in aircraft construction, the spoiler reduces air turbulence at the rear, improving the car’s aerodynamics and lowering its CO2 emissions. The restyled rear apron is finished in body colour below the loading sill and the robust black plastic rear diffuser bears a striking sculptured shape. The ŠKODA designers have remodelled the KAROQ’s tail lights too. They are now sharper and come with full-LED technology as standard. From the Ambition trim level upwards, they feature dynamic indicators and an animated welcome effect. ŠKODA-typical design details include the crystalline structures and the brand’s signature C-shaped light cluster.

New Aero alloy wheels and two new colours

There is a choice of nine body colours for the updated ŠKODA KAROQ, with the two metallic paint finishes Phoenix Orange and Graphite Grey making their debut in the range. Aerodynamics are improved by three new alloys: two of which – Scutus (17 inch) and Sagitarius (19 inch) – feature black plastic Aero trim that reduces air turbulence. The 18-inch Miran alloy is also aerodynamically optimised. The Style trim level comes with the Scutus design as standard, while the Miran and Sagitarius Aero wheels are optional.

Three trim levels and a SPORTLINE variant

The new ŠKODA KAROQ is available in the Active, Ambition and Style trim levels and as a SPORTLINE variant. This model has a Black pack as standard, with gloss black roof rails and window frames. The new KAROQ is 4,390 mm long and 1,841 mm wide. The front-wheel-drive features a wheelbase of 2,638 mm while the wheelbase of the all-wheel-drive measures 2,630 mm. The boot capacity is the same as in the previous model: 521 l with the seats in their default position and 1,630 l when folded down. With VarioFlex seats, the boot can hold 588 l, or 1,605 l with the rear seats folded down, and 1,810 l with the rear seats removed.

Interior: more sustainability and additional comfort

The interior of the updated KAROQ is even more sustainable and comfortable. The new, optional Eco pack includes seat covers made of vegan and recycled materials, while the enhanced LED ambient lighting and new decorative strips on the instrument panel and door trims create new visual highlights. As an option, the front passenger seat can now also be adjusted electrically.

Oliver Stefani, Head of ŠKODA Design, said: “Thanks to the redesigned decorative trim and seat covers, the KAROQ’s interior has a fresh, modern look and the car now also comes with additional comfort features. A special highlight is the new Eco pack, in which we focus on the use of vegan, recycled and reclaimed materials. The seat covers, for example, are made of disposed PET bottles.”

With the Eco pack, ŠKODA is offering a particularly sustainable specification for the revised KAROQ: the seat covers include details that are made of vegan, leather-like materials, and the trim-specific armrests are made of Suedia (microsuede) – exclusively in Mocca Brown. The Nisha decorative trim on the doors features a soft surface, complementing the enhanced LED ambient lighting, which now illuminates the front as well as the rear door panels in one of ten colour options and the footwell in white. On request, this is also available as a stand-alone feature separate from the Eco pack. The Ambition specification can be ordered with a ‘Unique Chrome’ trim on the instrument panel, while Piano Black trim can be found from the KAROQ Style upwards. The door panels now bear an Anodized Cross Line (Ambition) or a soft-touch Linear Diamonds design (Style). In the KAROQ SPORTLINE, the interior is characterised by door trims in a carbon look, sports seats with integrated headrests and a multifunction three-spoke sports steering wheel.

    2022 Skoda Karoq Interior

Increased comfort thanks to new functions of the seats

In addition to new decorative trims and upholstery, the revised ŠKODA KAROQ offers increased passenger comfort. From the Style specification upwards, electric adjustment including a memory function is available for the first time as an option for the front passenger seat. The built-in memory function saves personal settings and restores them at the touch of a button. Electrically adjustable lumbar support is also an option, allowing the front seats to be adapted to suit the driver and passenger preferences. The VarioFlex system is also available on request. This allows the three rows of seats to be divided in a ratio of 40:20:40.

Powertrains: EVO engines with lower fuel consumption and emissions

The revised ŠKODA KAROQ comes with a choice of five advanced and efficient EVO-generation engines from Volkswagen Group, which deliver an output from 81 kW (110 PS) to 140 kW (190 PS). With an injection pressure of up to 350 bar, the three TSI petrol engines are particularly efficient. The nitrogen oxides (Nox) emitted by the two diesels are significantly below the standards stipulated thanks to the ‘twin dosing’ exhaust gas treatment. ŠKODA offers the 2.0 TSI engine with an output of 140 kW (190 PS) exclusively in the KAROQ SPORTLINE in combination with 7-speed DSG and all-wheel drive. For the more powerful diesel, 4×4 and 7-speed DSG are available as options.

Johannes Neft, ŠKODA AUTO Board Member for Technical Development, said: “The current generation of our modern EVO engines have allowed us to make our cars more efficient while reducing their CO2 and NOx emissions. For the diesels, we apply a particularly effective ‘twin dosing’ exhaust gas treatment and for the petrol engines, we reduce fuel consumption by using high injection pressures, among other things. The current engines now develop their power much more harmoniously.”

Highly efficient EVO engines and reduced emissions

ŠKODA AUTO has integrated a number of technical measures to make the current EVO-generation engines even more efficient and reduce their emissions. For the diesels, weight-optimised crankshafts and extensive modifications to the exhaust gas routing – as well as the turbo, injection and thermo-management systems – result in lower fuel consumption. In addition, the TDIs are equipped with a further developed SCR exhaust gas treatment system and two catalytic converters. Using what is known as ‘twin dosing’, AdBlue® is injected in front of the two SCR catalytic converters that are positioned one after the other, reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions to far below the required standards. As a result, the EVO-generation TSI petrol engines are more efficient than their predecessors. An injection pressure of up to 350 bar ensures lower hydraulic losses and a reduced fuel delivery rate. In the 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI engines, an innovative powder-coated layer measuring just 150 μm (0.15 mm) replaces cast-iron cylinder liners. This reduces internal friction, which lowers fuel consumption and emissions. Through better distribution and dissipation of heat in the combustion chamber, it also lowers the thermal load on the engine. Equipped with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT), the 1.5 TSI automatically shuts down two cylinders when engine load is low, thereby further reducing fuel consumption.

Connectivity: digital instruments and advanced infotainment

The ŠKODA KAROQ’s connectivity features are state of the art: the SUV is equipped with systems from Volkswagen Group’s third-generation modular infotainment matrix and is always online thanks to a built-in eSIM. Infotainment apps provide weather forecasts and the latest news, and include calendar management. Over the course of 2022, the KAROQ will be offered exclusively with a digital instrument cluster: the 8-inch display will be standard or there will be the option of a customisable 10.25-inch screen.

The Bolero, Amundsen and Columbus infotainment systems are based on Volkswagen Group’s third-generation modular infotainment matrix. Thanks to a built-in eSIM, they offer digital DAB radio and are always online. The Bolero and Amundsen systems come with an 8-inch screen and optionally receive web radio thanks to the permanent internet connection. The system can be operated via the touchscreen, the buttons and knurled wheels on the multifunction steering wheels, or through Laura, the digital voice assistant which, using online data, understands 15 languages. The range-topping Columbus system displays information on a 9.2-inch screen. Map and software updates are installed ‘over the air’. The entry-level Swing radio features a 6.5-inch display.

Digital instrument cluster as standard over the course of 2022

Over the course of 2022, the ŠKODA KAROQ will be equipped with a digital instrument cluster as standard. The 8-inch display will replace the previous analogue instruments. From the Ambition trim level upwards, the digital instrument cluster (or ‘Virtual Cockpit’ as it is also referred to) is available with a 10.25-inch display as an option. This offers five basic layouts and can be configured individually.

Mobile ŠKODA Connect online services and infotainment apps

The KAROQ provides access to a wide range of ŠKODA Connect mobile online services. The infotainment online services, for example, enable remote access to the vehicle via the MyŠKODA app. This allows the driver to lock and unlock their KAROQ via a smartphone, display the car’s location on a map or activate the Honk & Flash function to make it easier to find the vehicle in a large car park. The online features in the new KAROQ also include infotainment apps that display news and weather, and can connect a personal Google calendar to the vehicle. Smartphones can be paired with the car using Wireless SmartLink technology, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay and can also be inductively charged when placed in the optional Phone Box.

Safety: up to nine airbags and various assistance systems

Improved assistance and safety systems as well as up to nine airbags ensure the best possible protection for all occupants in the ŠKODA KAROQ. Travel Assist incorporates five to eight assistance systems, including Predictive Cruise Control, Adaptive Lane Assist and an improved version of Traffic Sign Recognition. The optional Crew Protect Assist system reacts to impending collisions to prevent an accident or minimise the severity of its consequences.

The KAROQ’s occupants are protected by up to nine airbags. Driver and front passenger airbags are fitted as standard in the EU, as are front side airbags, curtain airbags and a knee airbag for the driver. Side airbags in the second row of seats are optional together with Crew Protect Assist. If the vehicle sensors – now also at the rear – detect an imminent collision or register sudden braking, the system automatically closes any open windows and, if necessary, the panoramic roof, and activates the hazard lights and pre-tensions the front seat belts. Following a collision, the Multi-Collision Brake prevents the vehicle from rolling any further in an uncontrolled manner.

Increased safety and improved comfort thanks to various assistance systems

In the EU, the standard equipment includes Front Assist with Predictive Pedestrian Protection and City Emergency Brake. The optional Travel Assist comprises several assistance systems, some of which are also available separately. There is a choice of two Travel Assist variants, both of which include Predictive Cruise Control, which uses images from the camera on the windscreen as well as data from the navigation system and, if desired, reacts in good time to speed limits or corners. In combination with a DSG, the cruise control’s Stop & Go function can automatically bring the vehicle to a standstill and have it pull away again automatically within up to three seconds. Travel Assist also includes a more accurate version of Traffic Sign Recognition (thanks to an improved camera), Adaptive Lane Assist (now able to identify road works and all road markings), Traffic Jam Assist and Emergency Assist. The enhanced version of Travel Assist also has Park Assist and Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert. Side Assist warns the driver of vehicles approaching from behind up to 70 m away. Using Hands-on Detect, this system also checks whether the driver is touching the steering wheel every 15 seconds or if they no longer have control due to a potential medical emergency. In this case, Emergency Assist activates the hazard lights and brings the car to a stop in its current lane. Parking is made more convenient by the integrated Manoeuvre Assist – which detects obstacles in front of and behind the vehicle, and brakes automatically, if necessary – the 360-degree image of the optional Area View system, as well as the optional Trailer Assist. Some of the afore-mentioned assistance systems for the revised ŠKODA KAROQ will be launched later in 2022.

The ŠKODA KAROQ SPORTLINE: dynamic top-of-the-range model

The KAROQ SPORTLINE is the range-topping model of the successful ŠKODA SUV. Apart from the 1.0 TSI, it is available with any of the engines in the range, while the most powerful engine is exclusively reserved for this KAROQ variant. The 2.0 TSI petrol engine delivers 140 kW (190 PS), which is transferred to all four wheels via a 7-speed DSG as standard. Visually, the KAROQ SPORTLINE can be identified by numerous black design features, and the interior is also dominated by black sports styling.

The range-topping model of the updated KAROQ can immediately be recognised by the SPORTLINE-typical black design features. These include the gloss black ŠKODA grille, which provides a stunning contrast to the body-coloured front apron. The Black pack, sporting gloss black window frames and roof rails, is part of the standard equipment. Additional black design details include the rear diffuser on the body-coloured rear apron, the wing mirror caps and the 18-inch Procyon alloy wheels, which feature an Aero trim, as do the optional 19-inch Sagitarius alloys. The rear side windows and the rear window are tinted (SunSet), and the front wings are adorned with a SPORTLINE badge. The standard equipment of the KAROQ SPORTLINE also includes full-LED Matrix headlights.

The interior is characterised by black sports styling, with Piano Black decorative strips on the instrument panel and a carbon-fibre-effect decor on the doors. The roof lining is also black, as are the breathable ThermoFlux covers of the sports seats with integrated headrests. The leather gearstick features silver contrasting stitching. The three-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel is adorned with a SPORTLINE badge and the front door sill trims bear KAROQ lettering. The LED ambient lighting is a standard feature in the sporty range-topping model and now also illuminates the rear door panels in one of the ten colour options.

  • 2022 Lincoln Zephyr

    2022 Lincoln Zephyr

Lincoln today debuted its first locally-produced sedan – the all-new Lincoln Zephyr – in China at Auto Guangzhou. The highly anticipated Zephyr highlights the future direction of Lincoln’s design and intelligent technology, and is expected to contribute to Lincoln’s growth in China.

“For nearly a century, Lincoln has been redefining luxury with stunning design, advanced technologies and world-class products,” said Joy Falotico, president, Lincoln. “We are committed to listening to the needs of our customers and the all-new Zephyr is a perfect example of this. The all-new Lincoln Zephyr is specifically designed for the young, Chinese customer and continues our tradition of reimagining design and technology for the future.”

Mao Jingbo, president, Lincoln China said “The Lincoln Zephyr is a true masterpiece that brings together the expertise of our global team in California and the exceptional talent of our local team in China. Every detail from the inside out is crafted based on a deep understanding of our, young Chinese clients, and I am confident that the Lincoln Zephyr fully features intelligent experiences of the future.”

The all-new Lincoln Zephyr will be built in China for the China market and is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of next year.

    The Design Philosophy

Lincoln Zephyr inherits the brand’s Quiet Flight DNA centered on the tenets of Beauty, Gliding, Human and Sanctuary, while also expressing a strong, contemporary aesthetic that signals the future face of Lincoln design. The exterior embodies Lincoln’s signature horizontal design language that expands the vehicle’s visual width and presents a striking and dynamic effect.

For the first time, the Lincoln Zephyr integrates Lincoln’s characteristic full-width light bar into the fascia. Integrated full-width horizontal stripes traverse the Lincoln Star grille and extend to the headlamps on both sides. The tail lamp also applies a new 3D floating effect, echoing the Zephyr’s front with its unique red design and embedded luminous “Lincoln” text.

The Zephyr is nearly close to mid-large-sized sedans. Thanks to a wheelbase of more than 2,900mm, the Lincoln Zephyr provides ample rear seating space and legroom. On the side of the sedan, the Lincoln star flows seamlessly to the flush handles which emphasize its sleek design lines.

To satisfy Gen Z’s demands for connectivity, the Lincoln Zephyr tailored its interior design to create an intelligent digital cockpit and a relaxing sanctuary with lightweight design elements. Nearly all buttons in the console are equipped with a smart, natural surface – an innovative, digital design detail that speaks to the evolving customer need for quiet, human-centric solutions.

    Intelligent Technologies

A 12.3-inch digital cluster with 27-inch coast-to-coast touch screen make a stunning visual impact and is configured to support an array of multi-touch gestures and customizable displays, enabling customers to choose between full or split-screen views.

Inspired by the cosmos and the calming night sky, the full-width coast-to-coast screen also brings the Lincoln Constellation HMI to life. Pioneering in luxury brands, the Constellation HMI applies Dashcard interactive design. Solo, Co-pilot and Individual intelligent operation modes are also available.

The Lincoln Zephyr’s phase-4 SYNC+ system is exclusive for Chinese customers, enabling over-the-air capability to continuously update Zephyr. Debuting in Lincoln Zephyr, the advanced Lincoln Co-Pilot 360TM 2.0 System and the Lincoln ActiveGlideTM are offered to help enable L2+ Driving Assist capability.

    Sense of Ceremony

Lincoln Zephyr offers a tailored luxury experience with an elevated sense of ceremony for customers. The new Embrace and Farewell signature feature illuminates the Lincoln Star first and gently lights up the headlamp as owners approach their Lincoln Zephyr. This is followed by Lincoln’s largest ever Welcome Mat that illuminates the ground.

Four Relaxing Modes, digital scents, and 128-color interior ambient lighting options combine to enhance the customers’ feeling of exclusivity and personalization.

Another unique feature in the Lincoln Zephyr is “The Future Letter.” After customizing content on the full-width coast-to-coast screen, customers can schedule content to appear on screen at designated moments and add a sense of joy for passengers.

“I am extremely proud that Lincoln Zephyr brings so many advanced innovations to our young customers in China,” said John Jraiche, global product director, Lincoln.

The all-new Zephyr will launch with a standard 2.0-liter gas powertrain with an 8-speed transmission and is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2022.

  • 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70

     2023 Genesis Electrified GV70

Genesis introduced the new model by hosting a world premiere event at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition (Auto Guangzhou 2021) in China, which takes place at the China Import and Export Fair Complex from November 19–28, 2021.

Appearing via video at the world premiere event, Jay Chang, Global Head of the Genesis brand, introduced the brand’s vision for electrification, after which SangYup Lee, Head of Genesis Global Design, discussed the Electrified GV70’s design. Markus Henne, Chief Executive Officer of Genesis Motor China, punctuated the event onsite by presenting Genesis’ market strategy for the country.

“Our global vision to create a sustainable future through electrification is a natural extension of our original commitment that dates back to the launch of Genesis in 2015: the commitment to creating a positive impact in our customers’ lives,” said Jay Chang, Global Head of the Genesis Brand. “I am pleased to reveal another new EV model in China that celebrates our audacious step toward a sustainable future.”

“We are presenting the Electrified GV70 to engage with youthful and energetic Chinese customers,” said SangYup Lee, Head of Genesis Global Design. “This is more than just a new electrified SUV. It is a statement for Genesis design that marks new territory.”

The Electrified GV70 sets a new standard for electric SUVs

The Electrified GV70 is built on the heritage of GV70, inheriting its predecessor’s spacious interior and adding outstanding performance and a host of new technologies designed exclusively for electric vehicles.

During the event, Genesis showcased an Electrified GV70 with an Atacama Copper matte paint exterior. The front fascia displays a careful consideration for aerodynamic efficiency and function. Genesis’ signature Crest Grille has evolved into an aerodynamic crest that features an inverted G-Matrix pattern and incorporates a hidden EV charging port, creating a minimalist yet sophisticated look. The minimalist horizontal shape of the rear bumper completes the model’s modern image. A simplified, tailpipe-free skid plate emphasizes the SUV’s electric nature, while the iconic and progressive Two-Line Quad Lamps put the finishing touch on the electric model of GV70 with Genesis’ signature Two Lines architecture.

The interior boasts a driver-focused design, offering an intuitive and dynamic driving experience. Inspired by the ‘Beauty of White Space’ interior design concept, the Electrified GV70 offers customers the opportunity to write their own story with an interior that reflects the sustainable ambitions of this electric vehicle, as well as Genesis’ commitment to future sustainability. A variety of eco-friendly materials have been used to furnish the model, and each material features a high-quality finish, completing a design that embodies Genesis’ vision for sustainable luxury from the inside out. Genesis will offer the model with a Glacier White interior.

As an athletic and dynamic vehicle, the Electrified GV70 offers competitive and powerful performance to satisfy drivers. It will be available only as an AWD (All-Wheel Drive) model, and details on output and performance for North American models will be available closer to launch. This powerful model is expected to reach 60 MPH in 4.5 seconds with Boost Mode.

Range estimates for the North American market will be available closer to launch. The addition of 350kW rapid charging, meanwhile, enables the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes.

Furthermore, Genesis’ application of a 400V/800V multi-rapid charging system will allow drivers to utilize various forms of charging infrastructure. The multi-rapid charging system enables fast and stable charging by raising the voltage supplied by typical chargers from 400V to 800V. The technology is optimized for the vehicle’s system thanks to the model’s driving motors and inverters. Customers can use the 800V rapid charging system to utilize both 400V and 800V charging infrastructure without the need for an additional converter.

The electric version of the GV70 also includes a V2L (Vehicle to Load) feature that supports a 3.6kW charge, which is higher than the power supply in the average home, enabling customers to conveniently use electric appliances outside of the vehicle.

Moreover, the Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) can automatically connect or disconnect the motor and drive shaft, considering various driving conditions. Such conditions include vehicle speed and driving mode, enabling seamless switching between 2WD and AWD – reducing unnecessary power loss while increasing efficiency.

The new model’s driving experience is further enhanced with a variety of cutting-edge technologies. The Smart Regenerative Braking System 2.0 regenerates energy through the braking system based on driving habits, real-time navigation, and road conditions. In driving mode, the i-Pedal (Intelligent Pedal) allows the driver to accelerate, decelerate and stop using just the accelerator pedal.

Genesis also equipped the vehicle with ANC-R (Active Noise Control-Road) to achieve a comfortable driving experience. The technology significantly reduces the level of noise by measuring and analyzing road noises utilizing four sensors and eight microphones and simultaneously creating sounds at opposite phases.

The Preview Electronic Control Suspension (Pre-view ECS) has been applied to support an optimal driving experience. This suspension system can be controlled based on information collected through the SUV’s front camera and navigation system.

    * Specifications and features noted are only confirmed for the Korean market at this time and are subject to change for international models. More information on North American market specifications and deliveries will be available at a later date.

  • Jaguar XJC by Carlex Design

    Jaguar XJC by Carlex Design

The jaguar is a night predator. This quiet, roaring beauty has enough moxie to take on a croc. It is the firmest cat of the Western Hemisphere. Which car symbolises this unique beast? It is obviously the iconic Jaguar XJ, created by William Lyons, the follower of the great 240/340.

It was definitely a great challenge to amend the car’s perfect predecessor – the essence of elegance and prestige. In 1968, though, the follower was presented, which remained virtually unchanged for almost 25 years – 11 years as Mk I and Mk II, and the next 13 years after a slight makeover by Pininfarina. It was still all about the same, beautiful and slender silhouette. The car’s crowning version was the XJC – the XJ Coupé, manufactured only as Mk II from 1975 to 1978 in the quantity of almost 10,500 vehicles. A true black panther among Jaguars, made only in Coventry with its twin Daimler. It is elegant, fast and absolutely outstanding, and has always been the showcase of the brand and the object of desire of drivers, willing to sit at the steering wheel rather than on the back seat.

My name is XJ… XJ Coupé 2.0 – sounds like a perfect line introducing the 2021 XJC by Carlex Design. It’s the same character but the latest technology: the 400 HP V8 engine, the new gearbox, brakes, rims and suspension. The best genes of the Jaguar family. A smooth ride, comfort and luxury – the essence of the 21st century, topped with exotic wood, top quality leather and carefully mastered details. It will definitely meet the requirements of the most demanding fans of classic cars and… those who simply enjoy a great ride. Carbon makes the car body tougher and relatively light, and the rollbar protects the driver and the passenger and provides greater durability. The British Racing Green shade perfectly complements the car’s unique style and look. What is missing? Plastic and repeatability of most contemporary cars. It will be an exceptional Jag. The one everybody would like to have in their garage.

  • 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS

    2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS

Born in Flacht with the genes of a race car, the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS shares naturally aspirated heart with the 911 GT3 making the most thrilling and focused 718 yet.

The naturally aspirated flat-six engine used in the 911 GT3 Cup car and the road-going 911 GT3 represents the heart of this uncompromising driver’s car. The engine revs up to 9,000 rpm. Power increases by 79 hp compared to the 718 Cayman GT4 to a total of 493 hp, resulting in a weight-to-power ratio of 6.55 lbs. per hp. Maximum torque increases from 317 lb.-ft. to 331 lb.-ft.

Accompanying the new engine and significantly enhanced performance are many changes to the appearance of the car, driven by functional demands. Among the many design changes applied to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS are the air intakes behind the side windows on the driver and passenger side where other 718 Cayman models would usually have a small window. The new RS-specific air intakes improve the flow of intake air, which can be clearly heard due to the proximity to the driver’s and passenger’s ears. Side intakes in the rear quarter panels – a long-running design feature of all Cayman models – are still present albeit revised to meet the greater cooling demands of the new engine.

Like every modern RS variant, the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS will be offered exclusively with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK): It changes gears with lightning-quick speeds and contributes to the high degree of performance that the car offers. Using shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel, drivers can change gears manually as they choose without taking their hands off the wheel. Alternatively, they can also change gears manually using the newly designed shift lever in the center console.

The Sport-PDK features shorter gearing than what is found in a PDK-equipped 718 Cayman GT4, and contributes to the impressive acceleration. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds – half a second quicker than the 414 hp 718 Cayman GT4 with PDK. Top track speed is 196 mph (GT4 with PDK: 187 mph), which the GT4 RS reaches in seventh gear.

In common with its RS model predecessors, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS was constructed with a focus on lightweight materials. The U.S. curb weight is 3,227 lbs. – 49 lbs. less than a 718 Cayman GT4 with PDK. For example the front fenders and hood are formed out of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). The rear window is made of lightweight glass. Lightweight door panels with fabric door opening loops and storage nets round off the focus on lowering weight.

The new, fixed rear wing with a swan neck mounts and aluminum supports represents a marked difference to other 718 models, including the GT4. This particularly efficient wing designed was adopted from the Porsche 911 RSR race car and was first used on a Porsche road car on the 2022 911 GT3. Combined with a ride height that is 30 millimeters lower than a standard Cayman, front wheel well ventilation, an aerodynamically optimized underbody with a rear diffusor, an adjustable front diffusor and a new front spoiler lip with flow-around side-blades, the GT4 RS generates up to 25 percent more downforce in the racetrack-only Performance mode than the 718 Cayman GT4.

Enhancements to the suspension also contribute to the even higher level of performance. Ball joints connect the suspension to the body and contribute to an even higher level of precision and responsiveness. The adjustable and track-focused suspension received an RS-specific damper setup as well as revised spring and anti-roll bar rates. Additionally, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels with center locks are used for the first time on a 718 Cayman model.

The optional Weissach Package enhances the performance-focused appearance of the GT4 RS even further. When this option is selected, the front luggage compartment lid, process air intakes, cooling air intakes, air box lid, exterior mirrors caps and the rear wing are made of carbon fiber. Exhaust tips made of titanium are inspired by the exhaust of the Porsche 935/19. The upper part of the dashboard is upholstered in Race-Tex with this option, while the rear window features a large Porsche logo type. Magnesium wheels are available as an addition to the Weissach Package for an additional cost.

The sum of these enhancements compared to the 718 Cayman GT4 make the GT4 RS the most uncompromised and exciting member of the 718 family. Its performance on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife underscore this particularly well. During final testing and evaluation drives, Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister completed a lap of the 20.832 kilometer (12.944 mile) track in 7:09.300 minutes. On the shorter track variant, which was formerly used as a benchmark (20.6 km in length), the GT4 RS set a time of 7:04.511 minutes – 23.6 seconds quicker than the 718 Cayman GT4.

To celebrate this impressive car, Porsche Design has created a Porsche Design Chronograph 718 Cayman GT4 RS, which will be offered exclusively to buyers of the vehicle. Like the car itself, the timepiece features a lightweight concept with a performance focused character by using high-tech titanium materials. The winding rotor design takes on visual cues from the wheels of the car and is available in different colors to match the vehicle.

The new 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is celebrating its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show and has an MSRP of $141,700, not including a $1,350 delivery, processing and handling fee. It is expected to reach U.S. dealers in the course of summer 2022. The racing version 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport is also being debuted in L.A., which will be competing in many national and international racing series next year.

  • 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sedan and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo

2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sedan and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo

No matter the form of motive power, the GTS variant of any Porsche is the optimal combination of performance and luxury, without sacrificing everyday usability. The Taycan GTS sedan and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo exemplifies this distinction. Enhanced styling and performance as well as unique suspension tuning and Electric Sport Sound among an array of changes that denote that this is the first electric GTS.

Pricing for the Taycan GTS sedan starts at $131,400, while the pricing for the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo will start at $133,300. Neither price includes $1,350 delivery, processing, and handling fee. Both Taycan GTS models are available to order now and U.S. deliveries will start in Q2 of 2022. EPA range and consumption figures will be available closer to delivery.

    Similarities

The Taycan GTS sedan and GTS Sport Turismo feature the same permanent magnet single-speed front motor, larger permanent magnet rear motor with a diameter of 245 mm and an active length of 210 mm, and two-speed rear transmission. This setup provides a total power output of 590 hp with Launch Control, slotting the GTS models in between the Taycan 4S (462 hp) and Taycan Turbo (670 hp).

Much like the Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S, the Taycan GTS comes standard with the 93.4 kWh Performance Battery Plus and its 800-volt architecture means it can handle continuous demand while minimizing heat build-up. This translates to high charging speeds of up to 270 kW and is part of the reason it can charge from 5 to 80 percent in 22.5 minutes, while accelerating both variants from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Inside the Taycan GTS, the familiar multi-screen dash and ergonomic and sporty seating position remains. And many of the standard technology and comfort features from the other Taycan sports cars, such Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, Porsche Connect with Porsche Charging Planner also come standard in the GTS variants.

    Differences

Although numerous components of the Taycan GTS family are inherited from the top-model Taycan, there are notable differences. Visually, the GTS wears the SportDesign front fascia, and the SportDesign side skirts and side window trim in high-gloss black. The rear diffuser features a high-gloss black inlay. The side skirts feature GTS logos, and the badging on the rear is in matte black. The standard 20-inch Taycan Turbo S Aero Design wheel features an exclusive satin-black finish, and the rear light strip features the Porsche logo in black. Finally, the LED-Matrix-Design headlights with PDLS Plus are tinted in black, and the exterior mirror cap-bottoms are painted in body color while the base is in black.

Though the suspension and performance equipment is carried over from the top-model Taycan, the calibration and tuning are all bespoke to the GTS. All the standard and optional performance features have been massaged to make the car even more responsive and connected to the road than before. The standard braking system shares the same red six-piston front caliper and four-piston rear caliper as the 4S, but is equipped with larger 390 mm front rotors (vs 360 mm on the Taycan 4S). The rear rotor size is the same as the 4S, at 358 mm. Porsche Surface Coated Brakes, with tungsten carbide coating, and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes are also available. Even the Porsche Electric Sport Sound has been tuned to be deeper and louder for both bystanders and passengers alike.

Standard performance features include Adaptive Air Suspension with Smart Lift and Porsche Active Suspension Management, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and Sport Chrono Package including the GT Multifunction Steering Wheel and Mode Dial. Optionally available performance equipment includes Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport, Rear-Axle Steering, and 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in satin black.

    Interior

The Taycan GTS features a unique Race-Tex interior package that reflects similar treatments from other GTS model lines. Driver and passenger seats feature 18-way electric adjustability and memory functions with “GTS” logos on the front and rear headrests. The door sill guards and interior trim is in brushed black aluminum and the accent package is in black. Roof lining and steering-wheel are also covered in Race-Tex.

Optionally, an available GTS Interior Package includes deviated stitching in either Carmine red or Chalk on the dashboard, doors, armrests, steering wheel and seats, with matching seat belts, “GTS” embroidery on the front and rear headrests, Sport Chrono instrument dial and the Porsche logo on the floor mats. The trim on the steering wheel, center console and door trim are in matte carbon.

    New Sport Turismo

If the Taycan Cross Turismo exemplifies all-weather, all-road capability, the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo sharpens the focus for the road. With the same interior dimensions as the Taycan Cross Turismo, the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo maintains the 15.7 cubic feet of rear cargo volume in the rear. Fold the rear seats forward, and a total of 42.8 cubic feet is available. Like the sedans and Cross Turismo, the GTS Sport Turismo also features a 2.9 cubic foot front trunk.

Like the Cross Turismo, the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo will also feature a glass roof and hard points to mount a Tequipment bike rack on the rear of the vehicle. Optional equipment includes roof rails, and an all-new Panoramic Roof with Variable Light Control. This system allows the driver to adjust the amount of light by activating nine liquid crystal film segments in the roof, much like a digital clock. There are four preset patterns, clear, matte, 40% (Semi), and 60% (Bold). Or each individual segment can be activated from the PCM. When the vehicle is switched off, the roof automatically switches to matte, and once restarted, the system will remember the previous roof setting. This option is also available on the sedan as well.

Visually, there are additional cues that separate the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo from the existing Cross Turismo family. The rear spoiler is paint matched to the body color, and there is no cladding over the wheel arches. The ride height for the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is shared with the sedan, lowering the center of gravity even further.

  • 2022 Subaru Solterra Electric SUV

    2022 Subaru Solterra Electric SUV

Subaru today revealed its first-ever all-electric SUV, the 2023 Subaru Solterra, at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The highly anticipated Solterra is packed with new electrification and in-vehicle technology while staying true to its Subaru heritage with industry-leading safety and go-anywhere capability.

The name Solterra was created using the Latin words for “Sun” and “Earth” to represent Subaru’s commitment to deliver traditional SUV capabilities in an environmentally responsible package.

    Adventurous and Versatile

Solterra comes standard with a new Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system that now channels smooth linear output from Subaru StarDrive® Technology, providing outstanding traction and capability in all kinds of weather and terrain. Subaru StarDrive delivers substantial on-demand torque at all speeds with power and driver-selectable regenerative modes.

Like other Subaru SUVs, Solterra is equipped with X-MODE® offering increased performance in low-friction and off-road conditions. The all-new model features Grip Control that incorporates Hill Ascent and Descent Assist. With 8.3 inches of ground clearance and 215 horsepower from front and rear electric motors, Solterra provides versatility in both off-road and city driving.

With up to 126 cubic feet of passenger and cargo space, generous leg room, and a nearly flat floor, the 5-passenger SUV gives occupants the airy, open feel of a much larger vehicle. The Solterra offers up to 30 cubic feet of useable cargo space behind the rear seats, and also features a 60/40 folding seatback and two-position load floor for maximum cargo and passenger flexibility. The wide 41.3-inch rear gate opening with low liftover height allows easy loading and unloading. Available raised roof rails add more cargo-carrying options for owners’ adventures.

    Safety Technology

The new Subaru Solterra offers a comprehensive suite of active safety technology including EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology; Blind Spot Monitor with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.  Also standard is Parking Support Brake which can apply the vehicle’s brakes if an obstacle is detected while reversing.

For the first time in a Subaru, a 360-Degree Surround-View Camera system allows for better all-around situational awareness. Also new for Subaru, Solterra is equipped with standard Safe Exit Assist. The new safety feature notifies occupants, before exiting the vehicle, of approaching vehicles with an audible and visual warning.

Unique to Solterra is the new e-SUBARU Global Platform that has been engineered to bring together Subaru’s all-wheel drive capability, superior driving dynamics, and world-leading passive safety.

Standard multi-element LED Headlights include High Beam Assist, encouraging drivers to maximize the use of high beams without worry of impairing oncoming traffic. The new SUV comes standard with driver and front passenger frontal airbags, side curtain airbags, side pelvis/torso airbags, and a driver and front passenger knee airbag.

    Eco-Friendly Made Easy

Solterra’s high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack provides plenty of daily range. The electric SUV can quickly charge just about anywhere with its Level 2 AC and DC fast charging capability. With DC fast charging, Solterra is capable of charging up to 80-percent of total battery capacity in under an hour.

To simplify the charging experience while traveling, mobile apps work with the vehicle’s multimedia system to help local thousands of charging options nationwide, including more than 3,000 DC fast-charging stations, and 38,000 Level 2 charging stations. Charging at home is also made easy and affordable with Level 1 or Level 2 compatibilities.

Solterra owners can explore the city streets and the open road with confidence because the all-wheel drive SUV has an estimated range of more than 220 miles, convenient home charging capability, and access to a national network of charging stations.

    Bold Design

The Solterra is an evolution of the Subaru Dynamic X Solid design concept, rendered with the design flexibility of the e-Subaru Global Platform.  At the front, Subaru’s signature hexagonal grille has been tightly integrated with the front fascia. Thin and wide LED headlights complement this design motif. A low hood line also contributes to the SUV’s sleek styling, aerodynamic performance, and excellent forward visibility while retaining pedestrian impact safety.

On the side, short front and rear overhangs and bold wheel arch moldings provide a confident stance and visually communicate the vehicle’s off-road capability.  The aerodynamically sloped rear glass has a dual-spoiler at the top and ducktail spoiler at the bottom. At the back of the vehicle, the rear combination lamps are positioned high, with a trapezoidal theme that strengthens the design.

The interior for the new SUV is a clean, minimalist design centered around an intuitive, high resolution touchscreen with multifunction display, multimedia, and climate control. Combined with an available panoramic glass roof and generous storage options, Solterra delivers an interior that is not just spacious, but also inviting.

  • 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid

    2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid

After recently debuting the all-new fifth generation Sportage, Kia has unveiled an electrified version of the brand’s longest running nameplate at the Los Angeles Auto Show (LAAS).  The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid (HEV) is the third model in an ongoing cadence of eco-minded offerings guided by Kia’s global EV strategy, ‘Plan S.’  This newest Kia follows in the footsteps of the recently launched EV6 and the Sorento PHEV to serve as another example of Kia’s multiple pathways to electrification.

Arriving early next year, the Sportage Hybrid will deliver an ideal mix of fuel efficiency and power along with an abundance of room for gear.  Significantly larger than the previous generation Sportage, the Hybrid will allow owners to enjoy class-leading rear seat legroom and rear cargo capacity2.  The “Opposites United” design language employed on Sportage brings a bold blend of modern styling and sporty visual elements, while its interior offers the latest in technology, including an expansive list of ADAS features and dual panoramic display screens (12.3-inch instrument panel display and 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen display) for nearly 25 inches of viewing.

This Sportage’s electrified performance comes from a seamless hybrid powertrain combining a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with a 44-kilowatt motor to achieve up to 39 mpg (targeted).  Together, engine and motor make 226 horsepower channeled to either the front wheels or an active all-wheel-drive system.  The result is a fuel-sipping compact SUV that delivers an engaging driving experience.

“The new Sportage Hybrid SUV marks yet another step in Kia’s advance on sustainable mobility, as part of our global ‘Plan S’ efforts,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO, Kia America, Kia North America. “In addition to paving a new pathway to electrification, the Sportage Hybrid also delivers superb driving dynamics, cutting-edge design, and a vast array of technology for a world-class in-car experience.”
